Hitting a roo and 'winning'

So I'm day three into my ride to North Qld. Managed to duck and weave through a 1/2 flooded NSW, and at 0745 this morning north of Injune, a medium size roo decided to flee from me by going under my front and rear wheels.

That's right, nearly 1/2 a tonne of HD's finest and me sent an unfortunate skippy to the next life.

I do not know how I managed to keep the bike up. I was meant to crash... as you generally do when hitting a decent size roo on a bike. After a second of so warning I managed to drop the speed to circa 80-90 km/hr, let go of the brakes before impact and I'm pretty sure I went back on the throttle. I went rodeo style over the top of the roo, got roo hair down the right (under) side of the bike, a whack on my right calf muscle and that was it.

A bit of luck, bit of the right bike, bit of no-one coming the other way, bit of 1-2 seconds preparation before impact. Fark. Me. Gonna get some shoo-roo's.

    JFE: 1
    Roo: 0

Gotta work out where to put the notch.

    Good outcome JFE

It all happens so fast, i hit one about the size of a german shephard, they were crossing road, going a 100 on the bacchus-marsh to gisborne rd

Hit my right lower leg, bit of exhaust header then the air cleaner, I pulled up and walked back to move it off the road, huge pool of blood, think the air cleaner must of cut it bad around neck

I thank the lord it was a quick death for the animal

Save the money on a shooroo and just keep a better look out. Some mornings out here 60k's is too fast it ain't the city.

Hit a Wallaby once when I was trail riding, in the middle of nowhere out Trunkey Creek way, solo, on my Husky 610. Was doing about 110 and in the blink of an eye this thing just jumped out. Luckily, as Wallabies are inclined to do, it moved with its head down low. Clipped it hard with the front wheel which sent me into a massive tank slapper. If I had crashed it would have been ugly. Fortunately for me I got it under control, unfortunately for the Wallaby he didnt make it. Killed instantly. Some part of its body had hit my right knee which swelled up nicely and had me hobbling for a week or so. All in all, bloody lucky.

Roo numbers are good at the moment since the rain out here but you can still get the odd one during the day while the weather is cool. I regularly do a day ride to Brisbane ( 1150km) 50k,s dirt and then 120k's of single lane bituman untill you hit the main highway with a 4.00am start just so I can hit afternoon peakhour Brisbane traffic. The return ride much better with a 2 am start out of Brisbane except for the wallibies between Chinchilla and Miles around daylight and it gets me home before kangaroo time in the afternoon. Just wish the Dyna had a 40l tank.

Well done stayin upright JFE, It's always a bonus :-).
Live in Roo country myself, am real careful round home.

Over the years, I've hit (or rather, they fuckin hit me) 2 roos and stayed on,
1 blue healer, didn't end well for either of us,
1 german sheppard, wasn't good for him but I managed to stay upright
and a few birds and bunnies.

Enjoy the rest of your travels mate, (avoid the wild life) nothing comes close to a good road trip.

Good to hear your ok mate.
Tangling with Roos is not good.

I wont ride at night around my way, bloody things are like flies.

A good point to remember is when you see a female hopping across the road slow down and check where she came from. I will guarantee there will be a little joey following.

Cheers and have a great trip.
