On the Coastal News tonight RMS (Roads and Maritime Service) are dropping the speed limit from 100kmh to 70kmh between Long Flat and the top of the range on the OXLEY HWY. Only 1 fatality on this road in the last 5 years. What a way to STUFF one of the best rides in the state and probably create a good revenue stream in speeding fines. I cant see many people traveling very far to ride 300+ corners at 70kmh to hang out at Gingers Creek.
they done the same thing on the Great ocean Road, lowered the speed limit to 80 for most of it, the racers all hate it, i thought 80 was fairly ambitious.
Doesn't it shit ya!.
In an age where cars and bikes are made to be able to handle more speed safely where is the logic in lowering speed limits?
My local council decided a few years ago that lowering the max speed limit from 100ks to 90ks would be a great idea. Except on one maybe 2 roads. Several years ago the state government had a similar epiphany and lowered the minimum limit from 60ks to 50 ks on most residential roads except where signposted.
So now you have the fucken fantastic situation where there are 100,90,80,70,60 and 50kmph speed limits to obey.
Thankfully on the eastern side of town they still have 110kmph limits (I can deal with that). Still a bit jealous of the NT though.
There is a petition out for the oxley. You all know what to do.....

Thanks for the link
Just received an email and it looks like a reprieve on the reduced speed limit on the Oxley HWY! Best news this week, unless I win Power Ball tonight.
Don't get me started on them, Spook!!
Bastards got me probably 300 meters from home, on a downhill section of an 80 kph road.
You have to ride the brakes down that short section or you'll creep up enough to get pinged!!!
