Screaming Eagle Staggered Dual Doubts

    Hello,

I'm having second thoughts about the Screaming Eagle Staggered Dual mufflers I  ordered on Saturday.

They have a better tone than stock pipes, but don't seem to be any louder.

I'm also not keen on the pipe tips.

I might be better served by a set of Freedom Performance or S&S slip-ons.

Rush & V&H pipes might be a bit too loud.

Can I modify a set of stock pipes for a better sound and more air flow?

    What should I do?

    Hi Mongo,

i considered all the slip ons you have looked at and got talked out of Freedom (poor quality) and the SE (too quiet). I went with Kurakyn Crushers slip ons for my Lowrider S so i can keep the stock headers and they are great quality (ie expensive) but sound perfect (not obnoxious). Check em out.

if they same headers on your bike you have the catalytic converter in them, you could get some more open slipons but keep an eye out for a complete exhaust system on ebay

then you could pack baffle with bit more fibreglass if too loud

I ordered the Screaming Eagle slip ons at time of bike purchase.

I soon changed my mind, due to relatively little difference in exhaust note compared to stock and shitty look of exhaust tips. ( I transferred purchase price of pipes to other products with dealer )

I then looked long and hard and took great notice of other's views / opinions, regarding slip ons with a great sound and look for my Fxdf

I eventually settled on the Freedom Exhaust Signature 3.25" slip ons.

Best decision I've made in recent memory !

Just the sound I wanted - deep rumble, without risk of upsetting the neighbours and a sleek 'no nonsense' look ....

Given what you mention in your post, I recommend you consider the Freedoms.

Take the catalytic converter out and hear the noise level jump right up.

Don't screw about with your stock pipes ...

You may need them one day, to pass an EPA examination.

My V&H slip-ons use to pop but since having the Dyno done pretty well cleared that up

I drilled out the standard mufflers on my vrod - worked well until i heard my mates VROD with black widow slip ons. $500 later i was happy.

Dont waste your time drilling std mufflers - go the crushers and be heard by the herd...

not too loud and lets the 110 breath.

'The Look' is just as important as sound, value etc

Southwind .... those pipes suit your bike very nicely.

Also by pissing off the cat and flapper valve and crap you save a bit of weight with a full system too - food for thought.

The crusher name plates can be removed and ceramic coated. I have been considering this for a while.

i would put the namepaltes back on - if they were black they would not be noticeable.

Hi Octane Performance Coating can do them.

I contacted them about the Screaming Eagle tips:

    Hello,
Can I get these chrome end caps modified to a gloss or a matt black or maybe even a bronze or dark gold colour to match components of the bike that are coloured black or dark gold?
The chrome tips stand out too much.
Can I also get rivets to match - or that at
Least don't stand out too much?

    The response:

    Hi
Yes that's something we can do for you.
We can also do the rivets to but you would have to be careful not to scratch them with the rivet gun .
I've included some photos of colours that you might like and a set of muffler that we coated black as they come chrome from S&S

    Thanks Marcus
    Hi octane performance coating.

Here is s photo of the pipes on the bike. The coating looks the same as the OEM finish:

I got the Crusher Mavericks and took the bike for a day ride south to get a feel for them and they sound bloody excellent.

For now, the tone is "tops", I reckon. <img data-cke-saved-src=

If after a while I start to think they are too loud, there is always the option of purhcasing quiet baffles to tone them down a bit.

All I can do now is hope the neighbours or the fuzz don't get the EPA onto me.

So I'll need to be really polite and friendly to the neighbours and not hoon-it too much and back-off on the throttle and drop a gear if the revs are too high when passing fuzz.

    ofnthenridersidea,

    Yeah .....

Probably best to install 'sensible' pipes and enjoy the ride, without constant angst regarding ........
    copping grief from the law.

( have zero idea, how some of the riders I hear, 'get away' with filling the byways with their ridiculously noisy clap traps )

no holes needed or indicator relocation for my sissy bar - its a Kurakyn Plug and Play system. Uses existing holes in guard so no drilling or dicking around.

much simpler and better looking option than HD.
