How good was some of our old music. Just bought a new turntable and have cracked out some of my old vinyl. Some of it goes back to school days so some of it is over 40 years old. Deep Purple, AC DC, Judas Priest, Quo. (lots of heavy metal) Listing to Golden Earing right now. Only have about another 200 albums to listen to. In bloody heaven. Was a bit anal with looking after my albums in the day so ,so far they sound like new.
Bought a Pro-Ject Debut Carbon. Base model at that level for now. Had an old girl that was to knocked around and SWMB obeyed thought it looked too daggy. Only running it through an old pre phono amp to a high end receiver but will start looking for some old analogue gear shortly to set it up seperatly. Forgot what I have been missing.
Funny you should bring the subject up, Graz, because I am selling the house, and have come across a whole carton of my early vinyls (still in good nick) also. Don't have a player, so might have to investigate what's out there now . Mick, I also still have hundreds of cassette tapes which I thought you would have to professionally get transferred to a more modern media. Any idea what that gizmo is your referring to? Probably take hours and hours to transfer, but it would be brilliant listening to the old favourites all over again and create some sort of library that wouldn't deteriorate in time. Uriah Heep was one of my very favourite bands in the day; "Very 'Eavy, Very 'Umble! Should keep my mind offa thinking about 107" SG's!!!!!
Just been sorting some of my records out this Winter, didn't realise I had so many, over 300.
Still using my Old Man's turntable that is well over 40 years old and still sounds great.
Oh, and Golden Earrings Radar Love has to be one of the best road trip songs ever I reckon.
Osibisa. Happy music after a productive afternoon foraging in the forests of the AdelaideHills.
Many of my associates who sell, maintain and use high end audio equipment don't recommend spending too much time cleaning records. Most dust sits on the surface and the cleaning process can push the dust down into the grooves. Having said that, I occasionally use a brush which is a bit like velvet with a nap on it. I use a very fine piece of green emory paper to brush over the stylus when it builds up fluff.
Just got my amps back from a service today and cranked up the turntable after having had them packed away for over 10 years. First record was Supertramp, Even in the quietest moments. Loving it.
Looks like a record evening at your place then at some stage in the future. Cheers
Yep. Turntable and green emery paper from the 80's. You're well across it. I'd never heard of the mould issue.
