Took my RK to Perth on Saturday to upgrade cam to 48 Andrews.

Anyway on the way up the heaven opened up and we got drowned.

Some time after arriving in Perth I start to notice her running a bit ragged not at all smooth like she was , exhaust even getting louder. and lots of vibration.through randge.

Still seems to power OK just rough.

Me think maybe she's outa tune and all will be fixed on Monday with new Cam and new MAP.

Over the weekend i notice we cool/cooler seem to run OK and when warmer /hot running rough almost like lumpy cam.

Anyway Monday morning new cam installed and all good with new Map and wow what a difference, so I head for home and about 10 minutes latter same as before Cam fitted.

Anyway guy that fitted says ok, so I head for home.

Power sorta feels ok just  lots of vibration.

Any clues, feels linked to Temp??

    Cheers

my fist thought was dirty fuel, restricted flow could possibly relate to getting hotter

Bad fuel would not enable tuner to produce a good tune and tuner should have been aware if that was the case.

    Thanks

I'm home now and guy that fitted the cam is about 250k away.

He tuned the bike with my SE tuner just added a new map and didn't look for faults.

I'll connect tuner later from memory the SERPT should show basic codes.

It was running shitty before the Cam install and I think it was a new map to match the cam.

May have to go else where for a proper tune

BTW I only use 98 fuel, I guess even that can be shitty.

If you mixed Shell 98 with any other brand 98 it can cause the problems you have described. I had the same thing with my old Boulevard. Filled up with shell with about 1/4 of a tank of bp still left in it. Bike ran like an old tractor. The injectors were gummed up by the two different oil company added cleaners reacting with each other (according to the dealer). Was advised if you're going to use Shell 98 only use Shell don't mix with other fuels unless you're nearly dead empty.

    Thanks for the info,

Well I used gull, BP and Shell 98 wasn't aware of the problems involved.

I hooked up my SERT to check for for any code, it said there were no new ones but there were about 6 historical codes, sadly I didn't write them down, mainly I assumed they weren't relevent.

But I recall a throttle position one in there.

Anyway accessed the ECM through the speedo and discovered a PO120 code which I cleared too early, when I returned to the laptop.the historic code disappeared into the sunset.

Bottom line is I don't know what effect historical code have, will have to go for a ride, see how it is recheck codes after that.

    Maybe some fuel additive.

I'm about 250 k's from anyone decent, maybe a proper tune in Mundaring I believe.

    Saga to continue.

    Cheers

I would not use Shell... or any E10 fuels.

How many kilometers have you travelled and when was the last time you changed the fuel filter?

Wayne Patterson's Motorcycle in Bunbury have a dyno and I was happy with their work. http://www.ducatibunbury.com.au/workshop.tpl

I use BP Ultimate in my bike and car, and get better mileage with no any issues for the effort.

They never do a discount like Shell or Woolworths but I can do with it out for the piece of mind. If you have a smartphone, download the BP app -- it will tell you where all their outlets are and what sort of fuel they carry. Helpful for planning longer trips.

Hey Lads,,, With regards the OP's problem,, I think we are getting a bit ahead of ourselves with fuel being the culprit .... It can happen, and does happen with shitty fuel around the place.... This can turn into an oil, (fuel), thread ,, you know how it goes,, mine is better than yours etc .... Evidence does point to a fuel delivery problem ... Fuel filter has been mentioned ,,, also error code PO120 has been mentioned, (Throttle position sensor), or at least something to do with the TPS .... Throw in the mix being caught in a major downpour before problems started .... Water gets into loose or already corroded wiring connections etc ....
There are a number of things the DIY person can do ,, Pull TPS connection and check for corrosion and loose wires etc ,,, drain fuel and fill up with good,, replace spark plugs ,,, change fuel filter, (can be a bit fiddly) ,,, check injector connections,,, check electrical system, (connections and good grounds) ... If none of these fix the problem , In my opinion, the dealers digital tech tool is the only option on these late FI bikes .....

Good luck to the OP,, as he probably wants to ride the hell out of the bike with his new cams installed !!!!!

Like I said, all codes have been removed, historical, real or imagined..

Before a mass buy of anything I will go for a run, see what happens and take necessary action.

I not really interested in a fuel brand debate. Even the rain episode may be just  a coincident.

    More to come.

    Cheers
