Road King Classic 2014 - Lowering Querys

I am in urgent need of some advice re lowering my 2014 Road King Classic. I am set on a 2" lower both front and back. Options as follows: FRONT: Progressive Suspension Lowering Springs (either drop in version or normal). The monotube cartridge would be good but too expensive. REAR: This is where things get complicated for a 2" lower. Preferred Option is to have it slammed look all the time eg. nearly rigid suspension. Option 1: Burley Slammer Shocks 10.5" Unfortunately it says does not fit the FLHRC model but looking for some feedback on that. Option 2: 1" lowering block kit use current shocks and look at a shorter shock shortly. I think Progressive do some but I would rather get a slammed shock right from the word go. The 944 Ultra low does not sit low all the time, it is only when you sit on it. SEAT: Lepera bare bones.... I know with all the above there is clearance, ride comfortability etc. I have a 2011 48 that is slammed with a pan seat so I know a hard ride. I only ride to work daily (50kms) with the RKC so dont have an issue. Thanks for as much feedback asap as I want to order straigiht away. Sorry about not spacing out thread it would not allow me to go to the next line.

Hi Spencer. No experience at all. You mention that you want to lower your bike so that it's almost rigid and to hell with the ride.

Your bike was designed to be a comfortable km guzzler. I wish I had one. (the whole tourer thing is another story)

Lots of posts on this forum are from members who want to improve the ride, improve the comfortableness of the seat and increase the time they can spend in the saddle etc.

Keep your city runaround chopped but save the RK for when you want to come on big rides. You'll appreciate the comfort.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do. Don't forget we like pics.

    Cheers

I had 10.5" Burly Slammers on my old Dyna. Sat so low it put a split in the sump 1400km's from home. Full engine rebuild required.

True dat Balloffski. Upside was I got to meet Scotty from Scotty's choppers at his shop in Uralla who welded the sump for me, top bloke. Rode all the way back to Melbourne with my hand over the clutch just in case it ceased on me as it was knocking pretty bad, the engine light didn't cone on until I heard knocking and by that time the bike was spewing oil out all over Rodders.

Once again thanks for the input. To hear about the sump issue is alarming especially on the slammers. Ideally if I could get a 11" shocky that sits low on its' own then same when ridden that would be good. I know to achieve this, it is going to be a stiffer ride. I am sort of committed now as I have purchased the progressive springs for the forks online and a Le Pera Bare Bones.

Why low...good question. I have attached pics of some of my bikes and I just love the low sleek look. I enjoy riding on top of the bike but close to the ground. The photo of the old classic is not mine but something I would like to achieve somehow by dropping the Roadie low. I know the seat is completely different to bare bones but that is something I can play with later. Definately need to work on a final choice and I was hoping the slammers were the answer.

By the way, I took the saddlebags off over the weekend for a look, put them back on this morning, got to work and BAMMM one was missing....absolutely spewing, no sign of it on the way home. B grade on my behalf...karma for dickin around too long.

Looking at the Ikon suspension. Believe they do an 11" shock which the WA distributor said should fit ok.

If you want the 'slammed' look then go for some air shocks, Shotgun, Dirty Air etc. Lower the bike to whatever height you want then.

Hey Deadwood looked into the Dirty Air. Rear Air ride 399 US or 800 US with aluminium upgrade shocks. Definitely has the height requrements but twice as much as Ikon shocks. Do you get a better ride on air suspension.

For your purposes I'd def be having a good look at air suspension. Everybody raves about quality and service with the shotgun shocks. You can set them up for looks, performance and comfort.
