EPA action against HD in the US for selling the Supertuner Pro

Good to see this topic is now in the tuning section ...

Plenty on the USA forums regarding what all this may mean for the industry in the future for the USA etc ,,,, Opinions from, good,, bad ,, to who gives a fuck !!!!! At the end it comes down to, big bureaucratic departments, (throwing their weight around), Verses , money and votes ....

We in Australia will be like corks in the ocean ,, going up and down at the whim of the ocean,, as we make nothing here ....

Back on topic,,, The question is for those that have spent $600- $700 on a Harley race tuner married to their bikes, and in the future want to do performance mods, etc .... I believe Harley Mothership have taken down Race tuner software updates from their web site .. Correct me if I am wrong, but my understanding is you have to update the tuner software , (every 30 days), otherwise it will not operate... If that is the case, it wont matter if your in Aust ,, the US , or the north pole,, your fucked ..... Some will say , well man up and buy an aftermarket tuner ... But if the US EPA cracks down on the aftermarket tuning market like they are doing with Harley, they will be in the same boat as Harley.. Everything is internet based these days , (no software,, no go )....
I read Harley is resurrecting the EPA approved Street tuner for 2017,,, Wont that be fun for the guys that like stage 2 bikes and up mods !!!!!

Know doubt the Black market will fire up ,,,, Reminds me of prohibition ,,, I wonder who is going to be the modern Al Capone ??????

There is a way to avoid the Super Tuner Pro "EVERY 30 DAYS UPDATE" that markwoumia has mentioned above.

It's not widely known , and was told to me by a "wise man" from the distant past.

You'll have to have fairly recent Super Tuner pro software ALREADY for this "fix" to work

Will not work if you don't have the software already downloaded onto a laptop or desktop

Just opened my version of Pro Tuner on the computer after reading this. Update came up and I did the update. After the install, I went looking for my saved recorded data, and it's fucken gone. The update deletes the original program and files and reinstalls a new program. Lucky I had backups of my files. Don't like the look of this.

I would have thought that under Australian Consumer law you would be entitled to your money back given that the product now looks to be significantly different from what folks would have originally purchased.

I guess I did the right thing in scoring a ThunderMax after all.

    This is what I found:

The Screamin’ Eagle Pro Super Tuner does not need to update every 30 days if you edit the "lastupdate.txt" file in the Program Files\Super Tuner\Delphi\Applications folder before using the program each time.

All you do is edit the date and time and you can keep using the program no problems at all.

Lushy mate, as already hinted at by Fontana

Ok to get around the 30 day update lockout all you need to do is open the “lastupdate.txt” file located in “program files\super tuner\delphi\applications” and edit to change the date.

You do this each time BEFORE you try to reflash a bike.

The date file needs to be changed to today’s date before you use it every time.

I had an icon made to shortcut to this , put it on my screen next to the Supertuner icon. Trained myself to go in and edit the date every time I reflash a bike.

This was told to me by a wise man from the past ( sorry for being cryptic !)

This will be a pain for many of my customers, that is why I ask. Some of you may also be tuners, I would not know as every one has a "code" name :-). I just use my own name as I can remember it . Thanks.

have you tried setting the date to a year in the future in that file. Its an old trick that I have used on several other Apps over the years....They check to see if the date in the file is older than todays date BUT never check to see if its a future date lol

Yes , I have tried that "year in the future" scenario.

Fucker still wants to update as I found out

Change the date to "today's date" every time you use it.

For most folks it's not even close to once a month in any case.

I'm on it weekly if not daily sometimes

I did a fresh install of SuperTuner9.002.0001 on one of my laptops today, then edited the "lastupdate.txt" file in the Program Files\Super Tuner\Delphi\Applications folder to ensure today's date. Unfortunately this didn't work & I had to update to SuperTuner10.000.0005 (latest version). Updating erased the entire existing SuperTuner9.002.0001 install, including all files in ProgramData\Super Tuner\Delphi\Tuning Files\.... So if that's the only place you had stored your personal tuning files, then they would be deleted.

I found that SuperTuner10.000.0005 works just fine, Installed all the existing base Harley maps as well as the new 2017 ones. I was able to modify VE tables & other data on my personal tune & save as another file no problems at all.

    That's a bummer Fontana ( or is it ?)

If I've misdescribed the process then sorry about that.

Changing to today's date works for me so far each time

I have "multi" reasons not to update , far too many modified calibrations to lose just one of them.

Maybe it was because you started with a "fresh install". that's why I stated you have to have a version on your device already already !

I have also posted this on the other "news" thread.

This arvo I updated to version 10.000.005 on my in home desktop.

This desktop has never been connected to a bike but I use it to save modified calibrations , whereby I put them on a USB then put that USB onto my laptop and import the cals to the file list in Supertuner pro.

I also use it to modify or import calibrations from emails before doing the same USB transfer. (I find it easier on a big screen is all with a proper mouse etc etc !)

Visually version 10 it's a bit different , commands in different places and the graphics are different , just take some getting used to.

All the non EPA "race" cals are there also , first thing I checked of course !

Laptop next , the acid test , I'm hoping it won't "lose" all those wonderful tunes built up over time , some of them I have used several times where club members have essentially the "same" bike.

If I go version 10 .000.005 on my laptop , will all of those calibrations be wiped is my question ?

Wiped mine Retroman when I upgraded. I do the same as you. I use a lappy to do the tuning, and then transfer any new files onto the big screen of the computer. Wiped the files from my computer when I updated. I then backed up the files from the lappy and upgraded that. Same result, it deletes all the files. I believe it uninstalls the old program when doing the upgrade, as I said in my earlier post above.

Thanks Soft , it appears that I'll be "cutting and pasting" and "clicking and dragging" like a bastard ?

Yes it will/may be the uninstalling thing. On the desktop it took aaaages to update , longer than I seem to remember in the past.

All my US contacts are saying "Go TTS or Go Power Vision"..but so many WA riders now have the Supertuner Pro already.

Both dealers got very good at upselling it as part of a package these last 3+ years

A cockhead at Sys Harley assured me that there would be no problems for Aussie customers of SEPST, why do I listen to these dicks? I might just bight the bullet and get the power vision with target tune. I will try the above edit first, FUUUUUUUCK!

Further to above, downloading the update WILL wipe all stored files in the software as it deletes the current version and installs the new one, but the tune in the VCI is unaffected, ask me how I know, Fuuuuuuuuuuuuck!! Oh well, as long as the good one is running it is all good.
