Hi all, I'm in the market for a second Harley which needs to be second hand and have been looking around. The Research funtion on Bikesales.com.au was the first place I checked out. The quoted prices on that are insane!!

I looked up a 2006 FXDWG and it said 16-18k....I'm seeing private sellers here in Perth that must be using this research function to price their bikes. Some are crazy prices when you consider that some dealers are flogging 2015 DYNA ex demos for under 20K never mind a 10 year old Relic!

Is it just me or are some people dreaming when it comes to the price they want for a secondhand Harley?

The way my hunt is going I'll be buying second hand from a HD dealer as they are almost as cheap as the private sales.

Also second hand of a dealer will be with stamp duty and rego a lot of the time
When you buy privetley these costs are on top for you to pay and on a 20k bike it adds up

When a got my Rocker a couple of months ago the dealer was alot cheaper, 3 to 5 grand cheaper than the privateers, plus 3 month warranty. 2010 model with only 1200 k's on the clock, showroom condition with stage 1 up grade and a SERT pro tuner. Sometimes people price with their heart not with reality! If a dealer is going to do it cheaper and give you a warranty then 10% off parts for buying the bike from them, and in my case follow up with contact a month after buying the bike to make sure everything is tickerty boo with it.......no contest!

Dealers need to sell bikes to make money, so they respond to market forces much quicker.

Individual sellers mentally can't accept that their pride and joy is not worth what they want, and generally it's no skin off of their back to keep that one bike in the garage with a skyhigh price tag.

I agree with you, the prices I see some Harleys at is a joke.

I was trying to buy a project Shovel FXR the other day, the bike was in pieces, incomplete, absolutely no proof the engine was running or could even turn over. The parts weren't original (tank, fenders, forks). I could accept all of that. I couldn't accept that he wouldn't budge on the price, which was about $2k off of what an original, running model can be purchased for.

You just have to forget about the dreamers, they'll either pull it off the market or realise their bike isn't worth that much.
