Neil, I sent you a PM. I had some WLAs and a WLC many years ago although I never restored them and didn't research them back then. But I have learnt a few things more recently about general ID.

Not sure how much you know so bear with me if I tell you things you are already aware of. I'd start with the serial number. Is it authentic (factory-stamped)? If you're not sure then you could post a photo, covering a few sequence characters if you're concerned about it being shown on the net. And the same goes for the belly numbers.

Have you checked the casting number and date code on the left case? Gearbox casting number and date code? Cylinder ID? ID of the cylinder heads? If you're unsure about these things then we can elaborate.

And you could buy a couple of restoration books by Bruce Palmer. He wrote a 37-64 H-D book in 94 and a 32-52 military H-D book in 98. In 2014 he released a second edition of the 37-64 book but it was revised in January 2015. However, it still contains many errors. Also in 2015 he released a second edition of the 32-52 military book but I do not know if it has been revised yet. Via Google you can find a website in the States for these publications but in Australia they are available from Redfern Motor Parts in NSW via (02) 4284 6733.
