Dyna saddlebags -- HD/Viking/?

So I'm looking to get some saddlebags for my Fat Bob. What do people recommend? I searched this topics on the Forum and consensus was the HD genuine ones are good, but bloody expensive!

Priced the synthetic HD ones with docking kit for circa $750 new. Even the dealer suggested aftermarket. After looking at aftermarket options, I keep coming back to Viking Bags which I can get with a sweet looking quick detach set-up for just under $400 delivered (motorcyclehouse.com.au). $400 seems good to me, but I'm guessing the HD will hold their value a bit better when/if I go to sell them separately in the future.

My planned usage is for occassional longer trips only, and will be in storage otherwise. I like the idea of them being reasonably waterproof, lockable, very securely fitted on the bike and easy detached. I can live with synthetic leather too, noting they are for occassional usage.

    Any experiences to share? Cheers.

jfe,i took the gamble and bought genuine q/d bags.
they hook on and off easy and work well and hold a reasonable amount for what they are.
but they are exspensive , but imho good.

Give Matt at AustSales direct a call, on 0405 247 408. He is up at West Gosford. also look on his website FinMoto. I have been using his Lockable Quick release panniers, for almost 6 years now. Been around Oz and a lot of rough roads, done almost 40,000km with them. The brackets I got off him are the Edge brackets.

Cheers for the opinions blokes. I will keep sniffing about. I do like the idea of the Easy Brackets, esp is they fit on most brands.

Have a look at Andystrapz Expidition panniers if you want something that works, waterproof and tough, have .had a set for about7years and still going strong. I use them on my dirt bikes and chuck them on the Dyna when needed. Great backup and Aussie made and have a look at his straps as well.

Thanks. After plenty of thought I've ditched the pannier idea as I only really liked the HD stuff which is too overpriced.

I'm buying either a Andystrapz A bag or Deemeed Explorer roll bag. Both are a similar principle, circa 30-40 lt and around the same price. Will pull the trigger tomorrow so I have the set-up before a upcoming big ride.
