Hi all 

Any sporty owners out there installed drag bars , im looking to buy some and was wonders if you need to change any cabling ? , throddle , brake etc ?

Hi mate,
Mine came with drag bars and standard cables. Brakes and accelerator cable work, but look a bit long, just cosmetic. Clutch cable you should change. Just too long the bend you can't get out of it flogs the bushing into the case and you will get an oil leak. Go to the Harley page for the drag bar and it will give you the part number for the correct clutch cable. Sorry can't find the page I saved (?) for the stealer who admitted that longer cable was causing the leak and then replaced it with the same one and then wanted to charge for the shorter and correct one, cock head! The shorter one has caused no leaks and also looks a lot, lot better.

Ive fitted lots over the years and never had to change any of the cables, The Brake line is a little dicky because is'a just a little to long

As I said oil leak from clutch cable, dealer replaced it with same and started leaking again as the angle it goes inis too sharp so eventually flogs the bush out (see my pics and you will know what I mean). Clutch works fine and only a bit of oil in the garage, but for $100 get it right and save the dramas from the missus. Part number is 37200056 for the Diamondback and 3720008A for the Diamond Black which I got. Agree with Walka the throttle and brake lines look a bit too long, but as changed to braided lines at a better length not too bothered about the accelerator cables.

spoke to harley they said its not technicially required and they dont really change it , they did try and flogg me off the riser kit, but I never hear there would be clearence issues  .... 

has anybody had any ? 

Went into a dealer today to get a quote. Huge lecture on why they will need to replace all the cables etc etc
Can't rember the quote now but it was over 1k for all genuine Harley and braided lines. Seemed a bit excessive.
I would love to hear anyone who can supply and install outside of a dealer

yeah Monstarr, its all crap , for the drag bars i wouldnt change any cables .

i decided to go the other way and purchase some hd chiseled bars , man they are expensive at $422 but the regular z bars are too sharp in angles and i was thinking the RSD mini apes but i dont like the holes and the hand placement being on an angle.

I say if you want the bars buy them and do it yourself. Also i know people who have installed them with no riser

Yeah from the research I have done it seems as though you can keep standard cables. 

I'm not mechanically minded unless someone shows me how it's done. I don't mind paying a professional to do the job properly the first time either. 

I'll see how I go anyway. I'm a little put off from this dealer now. I prefer to purchase of businesses I trust and offers value for money. 

Have a look at my pics number six (I think) and see the length and angle of the clutch cable. Looks naff and, as I said will lead to a little oil leak. For the price worth changing. Accelerator cable a bit long but works, as I said brakes I changed to braided at right length so no problem. My feeling is for a hundred change the cable .

Is the clutch cable in your picture the one that sticks out very far?
I had another quote for some non genuine parts and came in around $200-250 cheaper.
Break down of parts wasn't that much cheaper except for the bars.
4 hours labour sound right with all the cables involved ?

Assuming they are not running the wiring internally 4hr seems a bit long, took me about 2 hours to do the cables except the brake line (it had been done before)

Are you going to extend the wiring as well or just try and see if you can reroute it

That was for external wiring.

I might hang off until I see the more pictures or in person of extended wiring v's reroute/cable ties

Yes the one in picture (I think) is the clutch cable that sticks out way too far. And, as I said in an earlier post, leads to an oil leak, no matter what others say on this link. I know what was in the garage, the better half did too, the dealer too. Only a bit of a leak, but leak non-the-less and looks naff! Brakes were changed to the correct length braided, so no problems there. Will change the accelerator cables for looks, but they work OK. If you're going for drag bars, which feel real good, my advice is to at least change the clutch cable and if dollars allow go for braided brake lines ($100) you will notice the difference, XR callipers are also worth going with ($250).

Had my drag bars done and clutch cable was WAY too big from my stock 14' HD to their credit changed it free as it was a safety issue having a big lasso sticking out the front. I'd catch my foot on it all the time.

So I got my drag bars put on while the bike was in getting a RWC. Didn't bother changing the cables. They did a good job of routing the stock cables. I think I will change the brake line in the future. That S kink for me is a concern.
