    Hi all forumkind.

I have been thinking about getting a gps for me and Tigger for a while now, and it has been two years snce the last gps posts and i'm wondering if much has changed.

Anyone have any recomendations for a particular brand and why/whynot. Any dramas? To suit my 2012 Ultra.

I have a sena 20s intercom unit already.

TomTom rider 400.               Peter Stevens has them with a free car kit on offer ATM.

Garmin zumo 550 665 or 660 or montana?

    Magellan

    any others worth considering?

Thanks for your input fellows. Hutch

I have a Garmin 390 and cant fault it . Use the Harley bracket to mount it nicely .

I have the Garmin LM590, Motorcycle GPS. I used it on Lap of Oz 12 months ago. It is faultless, It is oil & petrol resistant, Plus Water proof. I had torential rain at least 90% of the way from Perth to Melbourne. Comes with car lit as well. You can set it up with service intervals, Tyres milage, and everything to do with service,  also set up to run through my Scala G9 intercom.

the wifes Spyder came with the Garmin Zumo 660, we have traveled Australia and the US with it, we are lucky because it was a Canadian distributed with the bike so we have FREE US and Canada maps, but have to pay to upgrade the Aussie maps
the wife paired it to her Sena 20
the new Garmin does come with the Tyre pressure thing as stated prior

Hutch can you Bluetooth your phone (gps) to your headset or stereo? I know you don't get a screen with that set up unless you can see a little phone screen mounted somewhere, but if your phone gps gives good directions maybe you don't need a screen? I usually know or can work out where I'm going but for the few times I'm not sure, I'm just gonna use my phone and have it connected to my new head unit (a Sony) via usb or Bluetooth. It's being installed now

I have travelled all over the place in car and on bike over the years and usually just look at a map before i go. But being older and wiser now and feel the need for a bit of reassurance i'm on the right track so to speak.
And also leading a lot of rides out my neck of the woods with my ride buddies i want to use a bit of technology and go on different roads and if I/we get lost then the GPS will lead the way.
Embracing technology cause i want to, not cause i have to. I don't mind being told where to go these days, ha. yes I'm getting older too..

Yep Fatbat, the phone does BT to the headset but i have not tried it with the GPS on the phone. I suppose I want the screen to see ahead of my ride for no nasty surprises anymore.

I tried using my iPhone but with the GPS running for an extended time the phone gets very hot.

Maybe it's ok at those temps but it's probably reducing the life of the battery in the phone.

Let us know what you think of the TomTom after you've used it for a while, I've been trying to decide between that one and the Garmin and can't decide.
