Hi all, after a few weeks with my new Mustang solo seat (wide vintage solo with removable backrest), I thought I'd write up a review.
Background: As some would recall I wanted to convert my 2015 Fat Bob to a single seater. After reading multiple reviews I narrowed my search down to two brands -- Mustang and Corbin. I was initially looking at Corbin as the most likely contender as I digged the look and the prospect of a heated seat (live somewhere really cold before you criticise). Although I came close to pulling the trigger, it was nearly twice the price of the Mustang and the style of rack I wanted to put on the back (Motherwell) wouldn't go with Corbin so that left me with Mustang.
Purchase: I purchased the seat for $450 USD while visiting the US. It comes very well packaged in the box. I got one with the removable backrest for the longer trips, not around town. Although I liked the Wide Tripper with the diamond stitch, I wanted touring comfort over aesthetics (noting plenty of blokes reckon the tripper is comfortable).
Fit: Fitting the seat was easy, but as noted elsewhere I wasn't impressed that the standard Fat Bob seat has rubbed on the rear fender damaging the paint. The Mustang fits nicely all round. I used the Mustang screw as it was longer, and presumably more secure than the shorter HD one. I'm still contemplating whether to Loctite it in. My rear rack shares the same screw.
Riding: Without backrest, I reckon that the seat moved me a few mm's backwards and up, compared to stock. Not really too much of a drama for my personal fitment, noting the stock was spot on. And the Mustang without the backrest doesn't have as much rear support as the stock. It is slightly firmer than stock but not an issue at all.
With the backrest ... what a revelation. Just did a 300 km ride today and absolutely love it for highway and 'fast' riding. Why? Well it turns out having the backrest is not only helpful for providing additional support but it also pushes me slightly forward so my leg fitment was improved which reminded me slightly of the last V-Rod I rode; more bend in the legs than the stock FB position. The extra support helped with wind blast on the my chest negating, so far, any need for a small screen that I was contemplating. Lastly, and I rate this, the installation of the backrest allowed me to cruise more comfortably at higher speeds 130-140+ (on a private road, of course). That was the biggest revelation and now selling point! All up it improved comfort and support. I'm also considering whether I could attach something small to the back of it, like wet-weather pants or something.
So all up, I love it and would recommend them as much as plenty of other folk on here do. I note Mustang has adverts stating that P&H to Oz is a $50 USD flat rate.
Happy to answer any questions. I have other pics but can only upload one at once, so it seems.
