Front brake light staying on - Fat Bob

    I am hoping for a bit of advice;

Just got a 2013 Fat Bob three weeks ago, first harley, recently went for a ride with a mate who tells me the brake light is stating on for periods of time. Had been having issues with the red light coming on intermittently on the dash when on a ride especially at highway speeds. Was told i was carrying my phone too close to my fob or that occasionally the computer wont read the fob and indicates this through the electrical (red) light on the dash. Noticed that the front brake lever which had no play in it only had to be touched lightly to illuminate the brake light.  Asked the local mechanic about it and he suggested that i hit the piston with WD40 then pull the front brake lever back to the bars (or as close as i could get it) and tie it off with a rag and leave it over night to get rid of any air in the system, then next morning flick the lever a couple of times and this should fix it - says it a common issues with the front brakes.

So, did all that, untied it this morning and noticed that i now have 2-3 ml free play in the lever and the light will still stay on when the front brake is engaged but will turn off after the lever has been pushed outwards a few times (using the new freeplay).

This is a new issue as i followed the bike home for >100klms in the dark in my car when i bought it (brother rode it home for me - he said he didnt mind helping as long as he could ride it...) and this was not an issue then.  I have not changed anything on the bars or dissasembled the housing on the bars? I can presume the light switch is obviously working, i am thinking maybe the freeplay that i created may be an indication? Has anyone had a similar issue on the Fat Bob. Apologies if this has been covered previously, i did have a look through a number of threads on here and couldnt find it mentioned

Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance

I had a similar issue with mine and every time I played around with it the light would go out
I thought it was a faulty switch.
I opened the switch housing and cut the wires and all seemed ok until I touched the rear brake a couple of times and the light stayed on again.
    Ok, now I am confused.
Reconnected the front switch and pulled 1 of the wires off the rear switch and all seemed good again.
Road home and noticed light stuck on again.
Anyway, the auto elec at work found that it was the rear switch going to ground and I had to pull both wires off it.
    Still dont understand it.
Maybe yours is doing the same thing.
I really thought it was the front and so did the auto elec.
    Cheers

If the Hand grips or hand controls have been off it normally means the Brake Switch has been Broken when there been put back together,
It happens every time someone messes around with something that they shouldn't do

My 2007 Wideglide had the same issue, just had to build the lump / tag up on the brake lever that presses / releases the front brake switch. Built it up with some locatite metal epoxy, you can sand it down If your make it to big. Hope that makes sense.

I had the same type of thing happen with the red light. After searching info here found all I had to do was pull the pivot pin for front brake lever, give lever and pin a clean then reassemble with a little lubrication (I used some engine oil).
I also sprayed a little bit of Inlon around the switch mechanism, and fixed it.

    Good luck

Yep, there is bugger all free play between the switch and the lever. So if pivot is a bit dry or sticky, then particular with wind force acting on lever also, the switch might not be releasing enough because the lever is staying against it

Ive had a couple of issues with this over time, you will notice that if you push the lever forward the brake light will go out. What i was told is that the front brake master cylinder gets a bit of wear and allows the lever to push on the brake switch (normally open switch)
So basically you need to take the chance and put a kit through the master cylinder or replace the whole thing. I replaced mine and never had another problem.

Before you remove the brake assembly you have to wedge the leaver open slightly, I use a small bit of cardboard , By doing this it will stop you from braking the tip of the switch when you put back together
