Annoying Cough

Well I recently purchased a new 2016 Ultra Limited.

It's a great bike for me and the cook and goes great 98% of the time. The other 2% is pissing me right off.

I can be riding along in any gear, at any speed when the motor will misfire/cough, causing the compensator sprocket to give out a thud.

It generally happens while cruising or very slightly accelerating when rolling through a round about or a set of traffic lights as they go green.

If I take off from a set of lights and give it a gut full it fucken goes hard and great.

This has happened since I rode the bike out of the Stealers new and I now have about 9K on the clock after about 6 months.

I've taken the bike back twice for servicing and asked for them to have a look at it.

First time they said they reset the fuel mapping through Pro Tuner which done fuck all.

The second service they said they hooked it up to the computer with no faults recorded and no indication of loose wiring. And unless the ECU records a fault code they don't know what it is.

They reckon they took it for an extended test run but it didn't miss on them which doesn't surprise me as it really only misses once every 30 km. Trouble is when touring 300 km = 10 misses.

It's starting to piss me right off as I'm starting to think I've ended up with a lemon. But really it can't be a big problem, just a matter of finding it.

Although I'm mechainically minded, I'm not a computer geek. Give me a carbie any day.

So has anybody heard of this problem before?

All sugestions will be frustratingly appreciated.

Have a look at the pins on the loom that go into the top of the injection, one of the pins had a break in it on my street glide causing it to run on one cyclinder then chime into two

sounds like the fuel pump might be cutting out momentarily?
As PaulyBronco said, plus also check the battery connections that they are snug and if you have a tender lead make sure it's not in any spot where it may be possibly earthing out (tender lead should be fused)

Sounds very similar to a problem I was having. Happened most at partial throttle and when the bike was cold. Took it in three times and on the third time a diff tech agreed there was an issue. Trial and error found it to be a tmap sensor and it didn't show up in any error codes. Tmap as in temperature and manifold pressure sensor. They swapped it over and bike runs good again.

    OK, Thanks Fella's

I guess the only way that I'll sort this problem out is to do it myself a little bit at a time.

Harley codes seem to be thrown up after repeated/frequent problems rather than an occasional one, so you need a mech that knows wtf he's doing.

It's a fucking odd one from what you've said so I'd really have no idea. I wasn't even going to stick in my two cents, but you don't seem to have much else so...coughs are tune related right, so air, fuel or spark (kaboom) problem? I'd go round tightening everything up and if that don't work I seem to remember reading about a pin hole in the fuel line inside the tank causing similar shit - but don't quote me since that was awhile ago I read it.
    Sorry I ain't got crap.
