The windsplitter windshield has finally arrived and Im itching to fit it and try it out then give my humble opinion.

Having said that, it will be fitted to an 07 fatboy which does not have the passing/fog lights which these screens are techically designed to be used with.  The dealer tells me all good, stick some spacers in there.  Now Im wondering if anyone has been thru this process and can give me a run down on what sort of spacers you used??  Also the wireform latch springs seem as though they will do fuck all to hold anything together/on the bike.  Hopefully someone has fitted one to a bike without the accessory lamps and can give me a heads up.  

When I finally get it fitted I will post a write up re fitting, some photos and my opinion on how it works in case anyone else is considering one.

I reckon this is what your after, Binnsy. Typical Harley. if you bought it new, you also have to buy the quick release docking kit to mount it! Not the same screen as mine on my '15 Fatty, but same principal. The latch springs are a bit of piece of mind, but the screen brackets are held quite securely in the rubber mounting grommets.

Not sure, Odin, but I reckon that spacer width might have something to do with the width of the screen base. The splitter screen doesn't look as wide as  my screen. In any case, I'm a huge fan of my screen on longer rides, and it's off in a jiffy for a shorter trip or cleaning. Money well spent, and give a stuff if it's not cool!

Partially fitted the screen today, and by that I mean I mounted it without the spacers (which I dont have yet)  so I could see how it looked.  I was apprehensive as Im not a big fan of screens as they can look a bit daggy.  Having said that it will only be used for long trips and I actually dont really mind the look of it.  The spaces are going to be rather large and I have included some pics of the gaps that need to be filled due to the fact that there are no auxillary lights on the bike.  I am of the opinion that I might make my own as apparently HD dont make them any more, according to the dealer !!

That being said my thoughts were maybe stainless round tube so they dont look crappy when the screen isnt on, as the mount bolts will be sticking out the sides.  On the lower mount, the gap that needs to be overcome is 5mm and a massive 15mm on the upper one......I will also need to relocate the indicators as they were on the bottom bolts and now wont fit as they did before.  Was thinking of maybe an L shaped bracket and attaching them to the lower bolt?  

Also that funky little wire clip that comes attached to the screen seems to do fuck all and not really fit anywhere, anyone help me out there?  

I have included some pics of the process so far and welcome ideas for spacers from you guys/girls.  Or maybe even mounting the indicators again,  I dont really want to put them back up on the bars as I will need to take the bars off for the third time to do that.

These pics might help, Binnsy. The bottom spacer on mine is 12mm, and the top 22mm. These are factory spacers supplied with the screen. the top bolts have a nipple type end similar to a bungy bolt that the spring retainer clips to, and ideally, is meant to stop the screen moving of the locating grommets. The docking hardware for the screens is not sold separately, as you have said. It comes with The Detachables Windscreen kit, but not with the windsplitter screen. You may have to improvise. Hope the pics help.

So heres what I did today.  Couldnt really find anything else that suited so I paid Clarke Rubber a visit and found me so rubber grommety type gadgets.  Drilled a hole in em and they seem to have done the job well.  Dont look that awful either. Used smaller ones for the lower bolts.   The upside is because they have a bit of give it tends to make the screen sit a little firmer on the mounts.  Had to relocate the indicators as they were bolted to the lower part of the tins.  Still there but because of the different bolt for the screen mounts I made some right angle brackets out of some aluminium flat.  Put a 90 degree in em, cut em down as far as I could so they didnt stick out around the bolts.  Gave em a polish and they too came up better than I thought they would.  Amazing what a little ingenuity can do.  Gave the head of the shitty old bolts that came with the screen a touch up with some polish as well.  Still havent  had a chance for a test run yet though.

Well, Binnsy, I hope workshop Foredog approved the mods. Wise men say: Invention is the mother of necessity! Great to see you found a cheap way around it.  I went on a ride yesterday , and left the screen off to see if there was any discernable difference. I have come to the conclusion, that the screen is staying on until it's over 30c. The difference in wind chill, and fatigue was enormous compared to with it on. I'm sold, but not enough to want a bagger !
 

Don't know about Foredog or security, But she does get in the road, and licks strangers to death!
