Honda has done exactly that in moto gp....they build bikes around a single rider and when they are on their game the bike wins. When the rider is injured or struggling non of their other bikes can step up. Ducati did the same with Stoner, no one else could tame that bike.

Not the way it was with Stonor and Ducati.
The bike was not built around Stoner, but he was the only one who could manage it, maybe control it, but certainly not tame it.
He adjusted his riding technique to manage the bike.

Michael Schumacher was obviously very, very good but during that dominant period, he arguably had the best car. And his team mate was not the best which is not unusual as the big stars often have a say in who their team mate is and don’t want to be usurped.

Towards the end of MS’ career when he was in a lesser performing team, I don’t think he demonstrated being a dominant driver at all. I always wondered what another very good driver would have done if given the same car at Ferrari (as a team mate).

I always think its a combination of driver and car merging into a cohesive racing unit.  If either is 'off' then as a team they simpley fail to hit the mark (ie like Dan R etc)

Yep, just pure talent in Casey Stoner's case. The amusing part at the time was how everybody was saying the bike was superior to the rest. So by that logic the Ducatis should have been filling all the podium places which they weren't, only one was.

The icing on the cake was when the almighty Valentino Rossi went to Ducati and went basically nowhere on it in two years.

See Remy Gardners been tipped out of his gig next year. Cant see him getting a Moto Gp ride again next season or into the future. Perhaps superbikes or USA?

He can certainly ride so perhaps he finds a decent gig elsewhere. KTM were quiet undiplomatic in the press conference i watched about him going, seems his manager has done him no favours either.

The less factory teams the harder it gets to get a competitive ride, shame our billionaires are so fascinated with space and not racing.

Good to see he got a ride after those slack chits in Suzuki throwing in the towel.

Should be interesting to see if his smooth style will suit the Honda.
