Can someone advise me on what model softail fuel tanks are interchangable with my 07 fatty tank.Looking at an 08 softail tank to paint and my gut feeling is that its OK but want to be sure

I believe all Softail, ( fuel injected ) tanks will be ok, like a FXST , FatBoy. not sure on Deluxe & Heritage., But if yours is fule injected, you need take of same. as they have a different pick up ( with filter), where as carby bikes have a tap

I had an 07 fatboy and it's a bit of an orphan in some respects. Many changes were made between 2006 and 2007 and this includes the tank. In 2008 much of the fatboy stayed the same from 2007 but some refinements were made, including to the tank. Different pick-up and filter location for the tank among other changes to the axle, front end and other stuff I can't remember.
You can use a 2008 tank but it requires a bit of stuffing about, metal work and welding. If you can use a 2007 tank it'll be easier.
I know this as I put a custom painted 2008 fatboy tank on my old 2007 fatboy.

Fatbat is on point there. The 07 fatty is the bastard child and had a stack of 'one offs' the tank being one of them. It has a different pick up. If you can get an 07 tank it will be a simple swap. I can't comment on an 07 softail tank, it for some reason maybe an easy swap.
