Hi all , would like to show you what I've been up to lately. Some time ago I thought about having the fatboy lo style coloured rim and approached my local powder coater to do my rims. I'm not in the middle of woop woop just on the out skirts and hence dont have many options that don't entail driving many clicks to get something done , so when the powder coater basically said " too much F%$King around and I don't want to do it " and aside from the fact I'd have to drive 100kms just to get the bearings out before, I said F%$K it I'll paint them. So thats what I've been doing, as you can see the front is finished and while I was there I gave the lower forks a polish. I'm in the middle of doing the rear at the moment and in between coats of paint I've also pulled out the shocks and installed the lowering kit to them. When I'm finished I'll put up another pic. Rock on
Heres a finished shot.I'm glad I painted them as I spoke to a rep from a company at the Perth motor show yesterday and he quoted me to powder coat each wheel $180 and if I wanted the alloy delineation that was going to be extra and I hadnt even mentioned doing the pulley. Cost me $60. A spray can of etch primer, satin black enamel and clear coat, a roll of 3mm line tape and another roll of tape to fill in. I scrubbed them really well with degreaser, a coat of etch,2 coats colour and a coat of clear with a full day drying between each step. I think its turned out well even though it took me almost 2 weeks to do in stages. I reckon on the above quotes I've saved myself around $500 maybe more.Hope this helps someone out thinking of doing the same thing
