softail lowering kit

Just finished installing my new softail lowering kit for my 07 fatty. Bloody hell what an effort considering my mechanical ability is a similar standard of a chimpanzee. Not having a bike lift and only a 6" scissor jack meant getting the shocks out was a hassle with the bolts being so tight. Fortunately I had removed the rear tyre to paint rim so it made it a bit easier ( took fender of to remove tyre )  To remove circlips I didn't have a hydraulic press so tried in a pedestal drill as per you tube -no luck- kept slipping so we ended up compressing the shock between a bottle jack and the underside of an air seeder of all things - with finally success. Pulled shock apart as per you tube and re installed the kit  then back to the bottle jack and air seeder to replace circlip. Well I can say I've done it and had a lot of fun. Am going to re-install to bike tommorrow. Now for the silly question -- the nut in the middle is the one for a height adjustment and the end one is just for fastening ? Well that how I imagine it. If I'm wrong can someone correct me. Do I blue locktite this middle nut and if you have any other advice to help me on the install I'm all ears

    Thanks in advance

G'day Fat Tom, yeah mate the nut in the middle of the threaded section is your height adjustment - nut further from shock + bike lower and vice/versa, tighten the end one against the bush/washer assembly to tighten against this one - make sure both shocks are set as close as possible to each other. You probably already know, but the 2 nuts closest to the shock are your pre load. Don't think Loctite (blue) is necessary, but wont hurt if worried.
    Pretty resourceful chimpanzee mate :)

    Looks just right Fat Tom.

Does anyone who has done this mod know if there is a risk of bottoming out to the point where the tyre rubs the guard or any other part?
I'm interested in doing this to my bike so am asking the question

Yep it can bottom out hit guard and tyre can rip out your rear light wiring and you need to reset your belt tension apart from that good to go

You would have to be going pretty hard to go that far .I went for a short 200km ride yesterday and I noticed the bumps a little but the roads in the regional areas are all over the place. Adjusting the belt was necessary , I didnt have the tool recommended in the manual so did it by feel and comparing tension with a mates bikes. I did notice on youtube a guy saying tension is pretty close when you twist the belt in the middle at the bottom and you can go to 45 degrees , any more and your'e loose any less you're tight. It would be interesting to know others opinions how to do it without the tool

Common problam with the rear wiring being ripped out or damaged as for belt tension I have the tool but have never used it always
Do as hound dog has said but also with some one of simler weight as rider
