I am a bit of a tight arse so decided to make a pair of waterproof jeans out of an old pair of jeans and a couple of tubes of silastic.
Needless to say it didn't go well.
The best I have used was quilted /padded oilskins. Heavy as fuck but warm as fuck.
I try to avoid riding in the rain these days cos I reckon its fucked riding in the rain.

Check the Pacemaker Motorbike jacket. Similar to the old Bellstaff jackets.

So far I've found the oilskin combo the best wet weather protection.

I've found that in certain weather very little keeps you dry so a base layer that doesn't wick the water is key to at least keeping your core feeling dry..

I use a Schampa warm shirt for my upper body and some compression pants for my lower half.

Anyone tried the over gloves from Andy Straz? They are like a waterproof mitt that go over exisiting gloves. The theory makes sense ... Might try some Gore-Tex first.

I've been wearing waxed cotton over pants by Nimmitabel leathers http://blackmax.com.au/product/query/oilskins. Into my second winter with these.
