Error code advice

Gents, travelling down the highway this evening on my 2015 Fat Bob and my bike engine completely dies. I indicate to exit, go down the gears and stop, grateful that I didn't get run over. Close call -- lucky we can filter legally here so I was in front of the nearby cars. But WTH! She started again after a minute, and I went straight to my HD dealer.

The error code says L IP (though the L had an extra dash in the centre). Anyone familiar with this? Doc Google says it may be related to a 45 degree lean sensor that cuts the engine off thinking the bike has crashed. I was completely upright at 100ish km/hr in 5th when it occurred.

The bike hasn't had any work done lately, nor has there been any other issues. Hasn't been washed in a few weeks. Plenty of BP Ultimate. No rain.

My dealer hooked her up straight away and found no/no issues, but gave me a loan bike as we agreed I'm not riding it again until we sort this out.

    Interested in your views.

So it turns out the error code was 'tip' which is a built in feature that kills the engine when the bike 'tips' over. In my case, no tipping but a presumed fault in the computer that thought it had ... So it will be replaced under warranty. No idea why it failed.

I'm pleased with the service I have gotten from Canberra HD in dealing with this issue.

Not sure if that should make it better or worse!

Natural reaction - indicate to get off the highway, grateful no close cars and go down the gears. No point pulling up in fifth. Never had it happen before in 21 years riding; not looking to repeat the experience again.

And go down the gears, mate. I didn't know what the issue was so I matched the gears to the road speed -- who was I to know whether she would kick into life again a few seconds later or not? Strange all round but new BCM installed so (hopefully) happy days.

I think I see where you are coming from Pauly... But I wanted to decelerate rapidly to get off the highway, out of (potential) harm's way. Luckily there was no one behind me as I had accelerated away before the issue happened. Compression wasn't an issue, if it was your advice would be spot on.
