fatboy screen

Thinking about a quick release screen for my 07 fatty so I can chuck it on for long rides.  I understand, or at least I think I do, how they attach via brackets on the sides of the forks through the bolts that hold the tins on.  Problem I have is I have relocated the indicators to the bottom of the tins on the side of the forks so to speak so Im thinking this will upset the process. Or maybe not, opinions from learned people appreciated.   I have 8 inch rise t bars that are inch and a half diameter on the bike and I have seen "somewhere" a screen that attached to the bars via the vertical risers and via a quick release.  Buggered if I can find them again so does anyone know where I may get one, or if there is another option.  Or if in fact the normal quick release will work with the indicators on the side of the tins.  Also I dont want to scratch the shit out of the bars taking the screen on and off via the quick release jobbies if I find a bar mounted option so any experience with these and protecting the bars somehow would be appreciated.  Thanks.

    Hi Binnsy,

I went with the Windvest Screen for my bike which is mounted on the risers, I just used a strip of rubber on the inside of the clamps to protect the chrome on the risers and didn't have an issue.

The only thing I would suggest is going for the bigger screen as I went for the 14" but found that the screen was good for protecting the body but would get the roadwind directly onto the face if wearing a open face helmet, I wore a full face when I went to Tassie on my holidays so it wasn't an issue.

Thanks hidiho reckon theyre the ones Ive seen before. Im only a short arse so might not need the bigger screen. I usually use a full face on long rides anyway. I will check out the site. Thanks again.

Did you buy yours from winvest? I cant seem to get their site to behave itself to work out a price.

Once you fit a screen you'll notice a heap of wind and buffet coming up from under the screen at the sides. Fork mounted wind deflectors fix that but you're gonna have the same issue/holes to mount them on

Yeah thought that might be the case fatbat. Not a big fan of those fork mounted deflectors either. Look a bit weird.

Yep, they look ridiculous but work a treat so I only used them for longer rides. But I'm caring less about looks and vanity in all things these days. Ended up on what I always thought was the ugliest harley made!

    Hi Binnsy,

I bought it from the Windvest site that I posted and just checked just then and the site was working and got as far as doing the checkout, so all's working with the site..

I'm 5'7" , you do get a small amount of adjustment with the screen mounted on the risers but once the riser starts to curve your starting to change the angle of the screen as well.

    Cheers

Apparently these jiggers ar the ducks guts, the cut out section for want of a better term reduces negative wind forces behind the screen,  I dont really know the difference between positive and negative ones, but we apparently dont want negative ones.  Theyre bad.

Anyway they work a treat, I apprently need to make a spacer as they are designed to be used with auxilliary lights and my fatty doesnt have em.

May still have the wind hitting my leg issues but these screens are the shit so they say.  At retail $605 including quick release stuff theyre not badly priced IMO.  Dealer will sell me one for $545.  Anyone got one and care to deflate my excitement bubble or are they ok??

Bloody hell that's expensive. Id be looking aftermarket given the cost. Would hate to spend that kind of money on a little screen that mightnt even work to your expectations.

I didn't think it was too bad fatbat. That includes all the quick release hardware as well. Apparently the cut out in the screen is the secret behind its all. I can't seem to find many aftermarket screens at all. Let alone one that has the super duper cut out ??

Thanks Odin, I hear a lot of good things about them. Did you need to use a spacer when you fitted it? I see the photos of your fatty and it doesnt have the auxiliary lights on it?

Thanks again Odin, if you have a photo of your bike with it fitted would you mind posting it. Curious to see how it looks fitted.
