Hi all!  I am on a bit of a personal quest and I am hoping that someone on here would be able to help me out.

Recently my wifes grandfather passed away.  We were very close as I do not have grandparents of my own.  He talked about riding his 1943 Harley Davidson.  I asked him "So what sort of Harley was it?"  his reply was to look at me funny and say "A 1943 Harley...."

I have spend the past week researching trying to find some photographs of a 1943 Harley, as the only photo of him with the bike, all you can see is the tinyest part of the rear tire and the fender.  I am hoping to do a tribute Tattoo , but I want to make sure I get the right bike!

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

    Thanks in advance!

Would likely be a W or U model. If you could see the lower part of the frame near the rear axle, that would help identification. WLA Harleys were the most common, and although always identified as '42 models, they were made throughout the war. I had a '42 made in '43. Engine no. was 42WLA39985.

Thank you for the info, yeah the U looks more like it... wasn't a military bike or he would have said that I think!

Hahaha, he wishes :P  My concept is That style of bike, looking like it's been sitting in a field for a while unridden, with some Tulips growing.

Old bloke was Dutch, wore clogs.
