Hi Guys, requesting some advice after the good oil i got here in re to my shed for my bikes/cars, would it be able to use a rollar door to cover the 6 metre entracne i have from my rear laneway to gain access to my shed, currently i have two 3 metre gates but due to the rise in the ground its not a goer, as well last week i almost got swatted witha 3 metre gate after the wind caught it.

Has anyone had one fitted any pros or cons and would it be a reasonable idea, thanks again. John

    What about a sliding gate

I though of doing it for my entrance but didn't like the idea of limited height access using a roller door + having to power it up so it would be electric to make it easier so went with a 6.2m one piece braked gate which has worked fine and worked out a lot cheaper.

The bigger the 'job' the more bucks you should be prepared to throw at it.

Received a quote today, to replace the motor in a 3.5 metre wide roll-a-door.

    $500 !

Had a mate who had one and reakoned it was a pain in the arse comming oof the rails and other issues but am leaning toward one of these, reakon if u looked after them it would be ok

the rollar door options appear to be be pricey esp for the larger size as they need to go to industrial quality which costs

yep you are right witht the height access, when you described a one piece braked gate, is that a sliding gate or something else?

You are right with the costs Speedy, been talking to mob in Melboure evendale gates and they have a fencleing rollar which could do the job but is expensive esp if power is required and going over 5 metre means industrial quality which means both power and manually raised as well but it looks smick.

Its a swing gate which runs on a wheel to take the weight, it looks like part of the fence , not so much a gate which has been a bonus as its a security feature because people don't realise its the entrance to the house unless you been here before.

I have a 6m opening on my garage and used to have 2 roller doors with a removable section in the middle.

When I wanted to change to a single door covering 6m the issue was that the drum the door wraps around had to be much larger to cope with the weight and to minimize flex and as a result I would lose a fair bit of height when the door is opened (garage under house) If you have adequate height it can be done

Having a lifted Landcruiser I would not have been able to drive in with that so I ended up going with a B&D panel lift
