Giday I have this issue. I rode the bike to Melbourne on Saturday and back home on Sunday 600km round trip went well. Two days later I went to go out and as I left the driveway the bike ran like a bag of shit (I let it warm up for about 2 mins before riding), power surging, and slight popping on de-throttle. Tried it again today and it did exactly the same thing. After I embarrassingly headed back home from around the block and into the garage I let it idle for a bit. Chugga, chagga almost stalling, I tilted the bike to the right and the revs came up to normal, straightened it up again and the revs dropped again, I tilted it to the left and the revs came up again....mmmmmm. The fuel gauge was just Ove half way. I added more fuel to full. I started it up and the revs were kinda normal, I did the left and right test...all o.k so far. I took the bike out again and it went ok reving it up through the gears. When I hit the 100km zone and settled in on that it felt as though it was hesitating. I backed down through the gears and noticed no significant popping. On the side of the road I let the bike settle from about 1 minute and then took off again. It was ok reving up through the gears but as soon as I wanted to settle on the sweet zones of 4th gear @ 80kms and 5th gear @ 95kms it we like it was running out of fuel.     Wow that was epic I know but the more specific I can be the better. I use Shell V-Power its a 98 octane premium unleaded fuel. And I have just put a new battery in it. Cheers and thanks in advance.

My 2007 FXDWG did something similar to that, turned out to be a faulty crank position sensor.

Ok, I don't know if this helps but it's very similar to problems I had with my bike, 2005 Fatboy. I know it's a softtail but the years are close. Under the fuel tank there are balancing pipes that regulate air, fuel mix. when they get old they crack giving the mix more air. It happened twice while I owed the bike. I think there are two. I replaced both at the same time and the fuel pump for good measure. I did over 178.000 klm on it. That was really the only problem that took a bit to solve and sounds just like the problem I had Bowzer. Hope it helps.
