Gidday fellow Harley Lovers ... doing a bit of reshearch for a possible project down the line ... i have a 99 FXSTS that a few of you may have seen ... i am toying with the idea of selling my Springer front end and putting on a Telescopic front end .

If and it`s a big if do go ahead with the change i want to put on one of the 49 mil fork front ends off a Fat Bob or possibly a Lowrider due to these models having duel disk forks ... i already have a 2010 19" duel disk front wheel on my cunnent front end so i know the axle size will be right ... the infomation i am chasing is the size of the Head Stem Bearins which i have been tod have been the same from the early 90`s to now but would love to have that confirmed .

The other inportant info is the length of the Head Stem it self ... there are other things to take into consideration such as changing the brake resoviour to comply with running duel disk but if the Head Stem is to long or the Bearing size is different then there is no point going further .

I am of course aware of people saying i am crazy to swap out the Springer front end but like i say it is only a possible project at this stage hence the questions plus nothing like a bit of a change to spice things up a bit ... Cheers .

Tim ... P.S.   this is the bike i may change up a little .

No takers ... i'm a bit surprised , i really thought there might have been a few
Harley guru's in here that would have had some info to help me .

Oh well back to the research .

Thanks for the reply Chopa ... I figured someone would know ... one of the reasons I asked this question was that I measured the length of my 99 neck where the head stem slots into and then the neck of a 2015 Low rider and Fat Bob and both of the newer models necks were 15 Mils longer give or take a Mil or 2 which of course would have the modern Fat Bob or Low Rider Head Stem sticking up that little bit higher out of my 99 neck .

Anyhow I appreciate the response ... if I do go that track I will let you all know if it worked or not , Cheers .

I've got a Std evo softail and dyna evo ones in the shed I will measure the length tomorrow for you tim
Weather there longer or shorter than the later no idear but as said bearings are the same
If the later ones are longer maybe a spacer or machine the stem down

Thanks Perthog ... appreciate that ... if for nothing else I always find it educational to have some of these Trivia / Facts stored away in the Brain compartment ... not that I have a lot of space in there in the first place , Lol .

I was down the Local HD shop yesterday in fact and did a remeasure and there definitely seems to be about a 10 mil difference ... the latter models were 185 Mils and the 99 Evo of mine is 175 Mils ... give or take a Mil or 2 ... but it`s funny you say about a spacer as someone else suggested that but I think I like the idea of cutting a few Mills off the Head Stem .

Of course I could always go the same era of front end and probably have Zero issues but the whole point for me is IF and it is still a big IF I do the change I want the chunky 49 Mil forks .

Will be interesting to see the results either way ... Thanks again .

The stem length on the fxst 41mm and a dyna evos are the same approx 205mm long The softail has a nut on the top the dyna has a bolt that screws in to the stem
Length was measured with no bearings or shims on
