OK, so I've been playing around with the idea of doing a tank lift on my FXDWG. I took the front bolt out today and chocked up the tank by about 2 inches. I think it looks good and give better clearance for cleaning the rocker covers etc.. Below are some before and after pics from the mok up. Anyway my concern is if I raise the front end of the tank how will this effect fuel consumption? The way I see it the fuel gauge will be thrown out indicting that I have less fuel then I actually have but as the fuel is drawn from the rear of the tank I should be able to get more km's out of a tank?? I only get about 300km out of a tank and dont want to make this worse. Thoughts????
I am thinking of doing that to my Low Rider
Moz
Yeah the lowrider would look much better with a small lift to the tank. Dunno why HD has designed them to sit so low? Hey mate how do you do those photos with the bike in colour and back ground in black and white? Is it a special programme? Does it cost?
Cheers,
Dan
No0 thoughts on that.. but you wanna sell me the stock low sissy bar off your wideglide?!
What's the colour of that Lowrider...Looks great.
Thanks mate, many years ago I had a 750 bonnie that I had painted and it looked very similar...The Black Magic colour looks different when you look at it on a dealer web site.
Cheers...
I would say that because the front of the tank is now higher than the filler point/gas cap area,
it can't be filled properly past that point, so you are loosing the capabilty to fill the tank.
Probably loose a litre of fuel storage.
Well I guess that has made my mind up not to do it then. I couldnt have less milage per tank than I currently get. Although I have seen a more expensive lift that lifts both front and rear of the tank but probably not the same look.
I know this is an older thread but I have just put the 2" lift in my Superglide. It looks good and it gets more air over the motor. It also gets my SE heavy breather away from the tank. Before it only had a 1.5cm gap with the chrome cover on it. As for less range, the gauge goes down faster but I have not lost any actual range. I just go further than the kilometres to go says. I went past zero k's to empty the other day and could only squeeze 13.86 litres into it, and I mean squeeze! So somewhere in there was just about another 5 litres or thereabouts that the gauge no longer reads. Also when I first fill up it now says I have got around 370klm to empty, where before it used to say 400 to 420. The jury is still out on it though because the one thing it does do that really pisses me off is my helmet tries to rip off my head at 110kph. The speedo seems to catch more air and rather than direct it around the speedo it directs it straight up and under the lip of my helmet. It didn't do that before till I was well on the wrong side of 120.
