When my bike is getting low on fuel it sometimes farts and splutters. The bike is a 2002 fatboy  with EFI and runs like a train otherwise.

I reckon the fuel filter might be getting a bit blocked.

    Whats involved in changing it?

    Thanks boys

It says should be replaced with the 40,000km service. I have not done one / mine. But I have seen pics & instructions and looks reasonably easy, Just takes a couple hours. Parts are only about $70. including new gaskets. Filter itself is about $27..

Pain in the arse to do. If you do it yourself get another crimp clamps as you will require 3 and the kit only comes with 2. When I done mine the gasket was not part of the kit and did not need replacing. As beagle said have a look on youtube as there are instructions. The only reason I realized mine needed changing was it spluttered at high revs. Couldn't keep up the fuel requirements. And mine cost $84 from HH in Adelaide and it is coming up again soon.

    G'day Beags, how you been?
How low on fuel do you mean? Being fuel injected the pump needs a decent amount of fuel at all times to stay primed and pressurised for the injectors. If runs good at all other times then maybe don't let it get so low on fuel. Just my view Beags.

When it first happened 12 months ago I was very low on fuel, maybe to the point where it was running out of fuel. It has done it 4 or 5 times since but when it did it the other day there was almost 1/4 of a tank left so it is getting worse.
Thanks for the tip about the clamps AJ. Is it necessary to buy the kit or should I just buy the filter? I haven't U tubed it yet but I will before I do the job. Where is the filter anyway? Inside the tank?

It only comes as a kit (filter, hose and 2 clamps) as AJ said,, you need 3.

Last kit I bought cost around $130.

It's not an easy job, again as AJ said, it's a P.I.T.A.,,, system changed in 08,,,08 and up = easy

Yes filter is in the tank.
