I am about to fit the upgraded hydraulic cam chain tensioner kit to my 2000 heritage and thought i might as well change cams while im at it. i was thinking about going the SE 204's but after speaking to my local harley mech he strongly recommends the se 211's . bike is stock apart from slip ons and air cleaner. Anyone here had experience with either of these cams in a softail ? any other cams i should consider ? i am basically after a cam that will give more tq and better throttle response.
I have 211,hi comp 1550 Pistons,Se heads and cam adjuster upgrade goes well but mates got 204 and very happy with them no other mods but a/c and mufflers
Just check difference in cam duration, if more duration in 211 over 204 & you leave it stock could be a bit lazy. if you are happy just stick with 204.
a friend tested those cams and he had a DJ250i to compare the two there was not much in it, then he put the SE higher ratio rockers they are not roller just like stock only as ratio changed they open valves quicker & a bit more livened that 211 cam up a lot more than just the cam swap, also was a cheap HP TQ gain. i think 211 would need more comp. or your cranking pressure will drop i like 180 pound or more cranking pressure.
Avoid the SE hydraulic kit. The kit retains the old style chains on your 2000. Much better and actually cheaper option is to use the stock late Cam plate and oil pump, and buy a set of conversion cams from Andrews. You can then use the new style roller chain.

What Speedzter said 100% (Worth doing for peace of mind BTW)
26N if you are sticking with 88"
37N if you are going to bump it up to 95"
thanks for the replies guys , at this stage i am hoping to get it done in about a fortnight. will get the mech to dissasemble and check the crank and see if gear driven cams are an option and if not the andrews kit sounds like a good option.
