Check out my Night Dragon thread here (its for an FXR running about 110HP - BUT a lot of other folks have chipped in with their ride experiences):

I also have am 883 Low with Night Dragons an love them. The front is the standard super sticky ND while the rear is a slightly harder compound ND as I do 99% of my riding on the freeway and wanted the longer wear + I tend to rely upon my front break pretty much all the time (I have - on too many occasions, had to do emergency braking and had the front screaming, but it always felt totally under control). The harder rear can get squirrely in the wet when taking off from the lights, but that's more a combination of my riding style and a cold tyre - BUT I am Melbourne based so in the warmer climates it would be way better.

    cheers

Just got a rear ( 160/70-17 73V ) Night Dragon delivered (not yet fitted).
Damn that carcass is stiff, and the rubber feels quite hard !
Think I should have gone for a softer compound sports touring tyre.

    Hope it sticks OK !!

I use Metzeler Marathon Ultra's (the 888's if I remember correctly) and the difference was night and day compared to the Dunlops. So much better in the wet which is good for me as I ride every day year round.

But, I wonder if any performance qualities are forfeited, for the sake of a better 'wet tyre' ?

I'm a 'Sunday Morning' rider - I avoid the wet. How are my Dunlops letting me down ?

Night Dragons front and back for me, haven't had a lot of wet riding with them, but the couple of times I have, I would say they are a big improvement on the Dunflops.

Not in my experience. A good all rounder tyre will be better than the standard Dunlops in most cases.

The Metzeler's I'm using now definitely perform better in the dry AND wet than my Dunlops ever did.

cant go wrong with ND fantastic tyre, I have run them for years on my fxst, currently running commander 2 front and rear at present just to trial to see what sort of mileage I get, so far so good, i don't even get 8k out of the 200mm rear ND's but would definitely not hesitate to run them again they stick like shit to a blanket

got about 5k on the rear commander at the moment wth no real significant wear as the ND would be almost 3/4 fucked by now, pretty happy with the grip of the commander 2 also (took a bit to get solid confidence with em though after running ND for so long)

Guys, I run an Iron with a 1200 conversion. I live in Cairns and when it rains here it's measured in feet and inches. I recently had to put a new set of tires on my bike to replace the original Dunlops. I went for the Michelin Commander II's. It was like night and day!! The Michelins don't "train track" like the Dunlops did and have completely changed the ride feel, for the better. They offer excellent wet & dry grip along with excellent longevity. They are also a much more comfortable tire to ride on. It's as if I have completely changed out the suspension!

At the end of the day, tires are a very personal choice, but in my opinion, I would have no problem in recommending the Michelins.

i`ve been running avons and liked them, ANYTHING is better than the original dunlops! due for a new rear soon and tossing up between the michelin commanders and the 888 metzlers, not many crap tyres out there.

Well, i always used Avon & liked them the Roaring Sporties they raced in the 90's got up to 140mph down the straight at eastern creek Sydney, most used the Avon Super venom V rated & they looked like race slicks with tread after a race with burnt rubber right up the wall. soft compound would be best in wet, but won't last as long. i also like the Bridgstone Battle Ax as duel compound daddyracer57 used these when he raced roaring sporties as was sponsored he got me some and after always on Avons was surprised how good they felt i road down the coast road to Vic and could feel & see the walls and up the sides soft and sticky & center where you mostly ride on straight roads is harder. but for me, old tyres seem to go off then you put a new tyre on it always feels better. when its raining i just take more care i don't trust any tyre 100% in the rain. but like was said in this thread, some tyres can follow ruts or railtrack, i have not had that happen with bike tyres in a long time but know what they mean!!! if you come to a gooved road where it has been ground down in road works & you ride over it you will soon find out what he means!!!
