    Just had an interesting experience
I sold my 2016 breakout becouse a block of land came along I put my hand up and said the bike is a play item the block of land is more importante..........now I have no bike.
To protecte my self from my own stupidity,I am thinking this time around, in the near future, wonce we have our our new home and are settled in.To buy a bike not so expencive that it can be traded for a more important item.

Question:   Old harleys are they a money pit... I am ok with bikes but far from capable of a big project but would love a big bore old bike.
Please no disrespect but could do a triumph maybe any old pommy bike, as this would keep the $$$ down and keep me riding
Naturally would love an old Hog

I reckon some of the best value bikes are the 2007 onwards big twins. A year ago, a mate bought an aussie delivered 2008 Dyna Superglide with mileage in the teens for $12,000 and it had good but not silly mods done to it, service history etc. And that was a year ago. Keep an eye on some of these bikes - the ones with mileage over 30k can be a bargain as 30k kms isn't really that much if these bikes are maintained, but the market value on them is lower again. Also have a look at Pickles Auctions website as they always have Harleys on there and with auctions you can sometimes get a good bargain. You'd be surprised what you might be able to pick up for around the $10k mark.

Mate, I still ride my old EVO and its never missed a beat. Incredibly reliable and frankly the newer model bikes in my opinion dont come close to being as reliable. My buddys 90 EVO has just done 210,000klms on the original clutch. He's had a 1 top end rebuild in that time and a couple of VR/VR's.

After owing a 2016 Breakout pretty much everything you ride from the past will feel shit by comparison.

    Thanks bro I got it
The Evolution engine (popularly known as Evo) is an air-cooled, 45-degree, V-twin engine manufactured from 1984 by Harley-Davidson for the company's motorcycles. It was made in the 1,340 cc (82 cu in) displacement for Harley-Davidson Big V-twins bikes, replacing the Shovelhead engine until 2000 when the last EVO was placed in a production factory custom FXR4 (FXR2 and FXR3 were the first CVO's).

Get an old Evo Harley... They are next to impossible to destroy - mainly due to their simplicity - and at the same time you can do 99% of any needed work yourself with minimal tools (unlike a twink). They will often leave a modern Harley sitting at the lights when push come shove (in my experience) and there are so many proven performance combinations out there for them ranging from mild to wild that its not a joke.

My 86 Evo is still going bloody strong and is my goto bike for when i need to chill out!

Mate, if I was in your boots I'd be looking at a Dyna Super Glide Sport. They are circa the late 90's, early 2000 with the 96 engine for circa $12 g. Pending on the vintage they spanned across carbs and efi, from memory. I see them pop up on Gumtree and Bikesales here and there (a few on Bikesales now). Why this model? It's the one I originally fell in love with way back when, - twin discs, handled well and was very comfortable. You could tour or not. Commuting and carving some corners is too easy. Looks good too. Up to you. I dig the twin instrument cluster. I guess they are what attracted me to the Fat Bob when I got serious about getting HD last year as it is a close cousin in my opinion.

Not that you need me to say it but I will - you did the right thing prioritising the house, but I'm sure you will get back on a HD soon enough.

Just can not do 12k right now and this is about the price for a older HD give or take 2k
Triumph 750 around 6k and is a concideration
Have seen a few 2003 Yamaha XV1600 (RoadStar) for around 5k  40,000 to 60,000 ks I recon I could turn into a bobber I'd enjoy fucking around with and would shut my bitches up by getting me on road
When I am ready to get back on a HD flog the bobber of
I know you mob will be spewing blood over the jap crap but maybe the only way to get a big bore bike black and crombe
    Wot you lot recon.......

84 Evo softy and a 98 Suzuki LC. The Suzuki is really reliable and you can pick them up for 4 to 6k.

Not a big Yamaha Cruiser fan.

Old Evos you should be able to pickup for 8k.

Bloodog - there is a Dyna Super Glide Sport on Bikesales now at $8g. Might not be any good but they are out there for sale in single figures.

And no - I have no financial (or otherwise) interest in selling one, in case anyone asks!

"Now you lot are looking out for me thanks bros "
Have looked through the photos and yes I would be proud to have this HD over any other brand
8k can not get this money right now this is killing me.... do I just not have a bike for 6mounths or buy anything with two wheels
As for buying a HD parts are always available and with mates can do the required work just add beer
I am looking through the bike auctions in my state I am lucky enough to have a network of mates helping me look and thinking would be a great way to learn about my bike rebuilding a repairable write off and the choice is amazing
I will post some photos before I choice
Thanks again for having my back

If money is a bit tight maybe you could consider one of these....http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/margate/motorcycles/motorcycle-moto-guzzie-1100cc-californian-jackal-cruiser-6250/1095133078

Guzzi's are a pretty cool ride, in fact got one myself that I bought in 84. The one above is dirt cheap for a V twin fuel injected Italian bike that would be at least equal, if not more HP than a similar vintage Harley and probably handle better to boot. Even got saddlebags and a sissy bar too!, what a bargain. Only downside I guess is that it is a tad ugly, but no where near as ugly as the old BMW's. I would grab it in a flash if I were bikeless.

    Cheers

Why don't you just buy an old EVO mate and be done with it.

Ok  my research so far ..... evo will be about 8 to 12k in the years 90 to 98 and will have at least  40,000 pluss ks
trumpy 8 to 12k  in the years 2008 to 2012 done about 7 to 20,000 ks
Its not just the ks its brakes tyres chain / belt so on
Was looking at a Triumph Rocket III Roadster 2012 like new will go like fuck handle good with great reliability
I will one day buy another HD, pay $30,000 to keep forever but this may be a few years away I just wont to get back out with my bitches smashing the ks for as little $$$$$$ as I can. When ready have a party stand around it drunk and burn the cunt then buy a HD for life
