I have a problem working out the correct battery to fit my 1986 FXSTC Softail Custom.I have been told the YB16B is the correct one but the Harley Davidson 65911-82B equivelent is to high. When the seat is fitted and you are riding, it pushes the oil tank down onto the starter motor. Can you please let me know what battery you are currently using in your 1986 Softail.
The Harley battery (65991-92B) which replaced the DEKA is too tall and when the seat is fitted it is actually pushing down on the oil tank. We have replaced the 4 isoloation mounts due to the fact that when the DEKA battery was in there if is the same size as the Harley one and was doing the same thing. It caused the oil tank to drop and the drain tube was actually rubbing on the starter motor which wore a whole in the metal tube causing a leak.
