Hello, there is a question I need to ask and hopefully I get the right answer , I have just purchased and new bike and in 1600 km it needs its first service after that if I service the bike myself with genuine parts does it void my warranty? The reason I ask HD charge $400 - $600 for the service for a filter and oil and more if I want full synthetic.

My first service at a dealer a couple months back was $369 (for a Fat Bob), which was the advertised price. I could live with that.

Where were you quoted so much?

Edit:  you Canbra blokes, are probably more into tea and coffee.

I seem to recall from your postings, JFE ...

That you have had your FXDF 'for some time'.

    A first service ... just NOW !

Are you serious, or 'just muckin' about ?

Yes you can do your own service - the Australian Competition and Consumer Act 2010 prevents automotive dealers from tying you into servicing or voiding your warranty if you service it yourself or have it serviced by a mechanic.

Since you are a diesel mechanic, servicing your bike will be a piece of cake.

I've been lucky enough to own a few new bikes.
What I do is return to dealer for 1600 service $415 dyna syd HH
Then once a year for next two years so they get 3 services out of me
You got 100% piece of mind then just in case. If they can find a loop hole not to pay a warranty claim they will ! don't give em any ammo.
If you do a lot of kms do a in between oil/filter and they want know?

Even though your a qualified Mechanic / Fitter by trade it might be best to line up someone who runs as a contractor with there own Business Name.

I'm positive HD would go to whatever means they could to weasel out of a warranty claim.
