Badlander vs Pillion Seat on Street Bob

Hi all, I'm new to the site so sorry if this has been raised before.  I've got a 2014 Street Bob (with solo seat) and am wanting to start taking the wife for a ride.  I'm undecided between the HD Badlander and the HD Pillion Seat.  I've read other forums which say the Pillion Seat scratches the fender paint and you need to run it with a Fender Bib. So I've got a few questions... Firstly, has anyone else been at the same crossroad and if so what did you buy and why?  What is the comfort and appearance like on the bike? Do you need a Bib? Any other info would be good...  I did look into a Phantom Pad but as I have Denim Paint the suction caps don't stick properly and no one has been able to supply me with the optional mounting bracket.

most individual pillion seats get very uncomfortable very quickly unless you get one of the delux ones, maybe get a quality two up seat you can fit when you ride together, saves a lot of fucken whinging let me tell ya, tell da'wife shes gotta pay for it if she wants to come

I would just get a piece of felt from a craft shop and place it on the fender or glue it to the underside of the seat

Those badlander seats on the pillion end are about as big and padded as a small block of wood. Get yourself a proper pillion seat. The fender bib or a piece of plastic will stop things rubbing.

Or if you don't want your Mrs joining you on the back often, get whatever you want like a badlander and she won't want to come along much

Go with Mustang... the pillion is an easy fit when required. I fit mine over the bib to protect fender.

The Mustang Solo and Pillion come in two sizes

Thanks for your feedback guys. I'll definitely take your comments into consideration. I might also borrow a demo seat or two from my local HD Dealership and see how they look and what the missus thinks.

Feel free to reply if anyone has any other info or suggestions. Cheers.

The other thing is Badlander seats are pretty uncomfortable on long rides even for the rider let alone the poor pillion!

On a softail, not a Dyna, but I have the Sundowner 2-up seat with a sissy bar. Wife finds it very comfortable, but the shape of the seat seems to pinch the back / top of my but so becomes uncomfortable after an hour or so if I am not moving around on the bike. This may be because I am 6'4" (mostly legs) on footboards instead of forward controls and I sit as far back as I can as a result. Others may not have this problem. Otherwise it's really comfy.

As for looks, it looks like it's supposed to be comfy. It's a huge wide seat that hangs over the side of the bike, so if anything it probably detracts from the look of the bike.

I don't sit around looking at it though, I can't see what's under me when I'm riding. If i was into how it looked I wouldn't even have this "olive gold denim" let alone this huge seat. I care way more about where the bike can take me than I do about how it looks.

I am using a Fatbob seat from a 2014 or 2015 model, daughter and wife have no issues with it.

    Just another option maybe.

Yeah I had a badlander on my sporty and the missus absolutely hated it. So when she gave me the blessing to upgrade to the 16 street bob the condition was to get a comfy pillion seat.
So I opted with the OE pillion seat 51404-10 smooth styling, It matches the original standard seat and I haven't heard a peep from the missus when ever she is on the back as a passenger. Its about 15.2 inches wide and about 3 jnches thick. It has rubber stops on the bottom of the seat which hasn't caused any marks yet but I will get a bib for it down the track.

    Thanks for the feedback everyone.

I bought a HD pillion seat on the weekend and took the bride for her first run. No complaints from her and after putting a few strips of adhesive felt under the seat there were no scratches on the denim paint.

That's one issue down, now to tackle the custom sissy bar.
