    Hey Guys

Have a 2007 Road King Custom.  The licnese plate is in a shit location above the Taillight..  Looking for some ideas on how to relocate License plate down below the taillight.  Hate the way it sits up so high above the fender.  Anyone moved one or seen one relocated ?

Update.  Couldnt leave it alone.  Had a 1 inch wide strip of .125 Stainless laying aorund and made two brackets to hang off the existing bag frames.  Only needed a drill press a vice and a hammer.  I'll take them back off and give them a good rounding of corners and edges and polishing of surfaces next weekend.  The untrained wouldnt know they werent stock bits.  I also scrounged up a couple 12 Volt LEDs in the camping cupboard I'll wire up later.  Not sure if its too low to be legal and dont care.  If it fails rego it will take me 20 minutes to put it back to stock and then bring back down after.  The Wide Oval S&S slipons add to its location I think.  The stock round pipes would have sort of left the plate down there on its own.  Now it sits nicely with the wide ovals sort of right in between them.  I'm Pretty happy with the down low look and it ony cost me two hours work.  Im going to look into removing the original bar it was attached to as well.  The change has left a couple ugly threaded bolt holes behind i could fill with Chrome bolts but would rather just remove the whole bar.  Just need to make sure its removal wont effect structural integrity of the back end.  The clear bit on the Tail light that pointed up I just took a Red Texta too it and you cant tell it was clear before.  If I have to touch it up once in awhile no worries.

Im thick skinned and would appreciate comments good or bad.  Just go easy on me.

Up to you mate, but I think it might be too low for rego? I had a Sportster with the same original set up and hated it too. sat up there like a billboard.

I changed the whole bike to a Streetglide and they have a much neater set up, but looks like you will sort it out heaps cheaper. Cheers.

Shame your not up here in Townsville.

I would have done a straight swap for my parts.

I have an Ultra with the plate under the taillight and and thinking about putting it above my tail light but under the top box.

It just wasn't mentioned to be.

If you never use a top box, I would take off the Chrome Rail Bracket then  Lower down the Tail light and Indicators 3 or 4 inches and fit a Lay down Rego Plate Holder above the Light to cover the hole left

Maybe also  change the tail light to a lay down style aswell

Hey Walka, Should have asked. I have heard two trains of thought on removing the rear mount bar. One that it adds rigidity to the back end and one that it doesnt. I think it adds some but not enough for me to worry about. With my style of riding I would not notice. Its a Road King not a race bike. Im guessing if your suggesting its removal you have seen others removed with No issues ? Just trying to get another opinion. Will probably remove it either way tomorrow. Thanks

Update. I have dug deeper and removed the bags. I think HD definatley consider this a structural connection. The number of bolts and the welds show the MOCO was trying to reduce torsional twist of the rear end. When I removed the bags and the chrome covers and saw the way it was sealed and welded it opened my eyes. I removed the bolts anyway and saw how everything moved freely. I wont be removing the rear bar as planned without definitive evidence there is not an issue doing it. From what I see I believe it appears critical to the structure of the rear end. Just my thoughts and happy to be shown I am incorrect.

Jersey when you say rear bar are you talking about the one that....(1) loops under the rear fender & supports either side muffler mounts, that in turn ...(2) connects to a pannier bracket that comes down from the top of the fender. I have seen both bags removed & a 2 into 1 exhaust fitted on a roady carn`t remember if the brackets were taken off.... interesting look!
