Yes riding it, compression test, signs of work (new gaskets etc) dyno results, the sound changes with cams, exhaust note and idle, reputation of the shop.

Why? Do you think you were ripped?

I am having a screaming eagle pro stage 3 kit fitted in a couple of weeks,it is 103 upgrade kit for my 2014 street bob and it is the first time i have done anything like this to a bike, as in buying it, as i have bought bikes before with upgrades already done, first time for my hog and although i think the shop has a good rep i am just a little cautious as in not wanting to be ripped,

                                                                     Cheers,

Make sure you get given back the bits they replace. Pistons, heads throttle body etc. You could always put a couple of discreet marks on your heads beforehand, if they are still there when you get it back you know you have been jipped. However a stage 3 should be a noticeable boost to power and torque.

After getting a stage 4 on mine it would seem that getting a dynotune done by a "Proven" expert is imperative. DO NOT blindly trust your nearest Harley dealer to do this. I sent my bike back immediately after the upgrade for a re-tune. It came back a little better but another independant tuner still managed to get another 9 HP and TQ out of it some time later.

Also it seems that getting the best performing exhausts make a big difference. I was a gullible cunt and believed the shop salesman about the merits of a particular 2-1 pipe that I now suspect they get kickbacks for selling. Have since found out that the standard headers with simple slip ons (which I already had) would give an extra 10HP over the 2-1"s. Fucken spewing!.

Olly, have you had a look at the price of a 103 complete engine instead of upgrading, can be cheaper.

I think he already has the 103, pretty sure that was the first year they were fitted to the street bobs.

    Thanks for your responses,
The bike is a 2014 street bob, Stock 103 motor, Black Denim, 10,060klms, I brought it Brand new off show room floor, I have V&H short shots, Screamin Eagle air cleaner kit and the pro tuner all fitted after initial sale and now having the Screamin Eagle pro stage 3 race kit to be fitted (10:5 comp pistons, cams, lifters, adjustable push rods, tappets, etc.) No barrel replacement and no head work to be done initially.
The work is being done by my local Harley dealer where I bought the bike from and in the past all parts have been returned to me, Note taken Far Canal.
Thanks to all for your input and time taken out to reply to my concern, very much appreciated and I have taken things onboard and will keep you all updated on the progress of build and how she performs,
    Cheers,
    Olly

Sometimes people get a stage one that isn't actually a performance upgrade. I'm talking about people that get a canned map loaded onto their bike and/or an aftermarket exhaust which reduces performance. A good exhaust and a proper dyno tune makes a big difference over some of the crappy stage 1 bikes out there.

With the stage 3 kit you're talking about you haven't mentioned what cams or cost. If you're gonna go to this trouble and expense to get some decent performance, get rid of the short shots. If you did this, maybe just cams and a good tune without cylinder/piston change will make you happy. Something like an Andrews 57h

I was just thinking that if you bought your bike brand new with the stage 1 kit, it probably wouldn't have been dyno tuned as you usually wouldn't do this to a bike during its initial engine run-in

    Sweet as people,

SE-259E cams as stated by catalouge, high lift valve springs, kit also comes with a high performance diaphragm clutch spring as well as parts listed in last post as well as all rings, gudgeon pins, o-rings,etc. $2600 supplied and fitted 2 days

Suggestions on head work and exhausts would be appreciated Daggs, Bike is also injected, no carb, but you probably already know that,

                                                                                                                                              Cheers,

                                                                                                                                                              Olly

You can see what I am biased to in my signature but exhausts are a personal thing, you have to decide if you want to balance looks and performance or go totally to performance or totally to looks (and sound)
Luckily for me the D&D Bobcat ticks all the boxes.
Headwork, well you could go the SE route as you are fitting all their other components, I prefer aftermarket and hand massaged parts. Ha ha
Mark Hood did my heads and very happy with his work.
You need to really understand your build though, where you want the boost in torque to happen, then the correct compression for your cam and then how to set that compression, through pistons, piston to cylinder deck height, head gaskets, ccing the heads......

the 259e will start coming on about 3500-3800rpm, does that sound okay for you?

For a $2600 outlay I would talk to a local Indy and see what they can do.

You might stick with the SE Stage III you may not???

I agree with what others have said.

Plus on top of the $2600 you're gonna have tuning cost. So once run in add another $600-800. Plus the cost of a decent exhaust if you want to make the most of things. The d&d exhausts tend to go alright. Look up best performing exhausts on the yank forums and you'll see the same exhausts mentioned time and time again. And oem head pipes with s&s tapered turbo mufflers go better than most too.

Nobody spends that much money on anything without getting a quote/opinion from another shop or two.
