40,000Km servicing costs

    G'day guys,

Bike is due for it's 40,000KM service. Just called (Perth) Frasers (I know, I know... but that's where the bike came from and always back to when required) to book it in, and was quoted around $960 for the service. Apparently around 4 hours labour + parts.

I'm aware it's not a minor service, but this seems ridiculous to me. I've had dealership V8 major services done that have come out to almost half that cost... Frasers said the fuel filter replacement was a big part of the cost, which isn't that small a job but still...

Something interesting that they mentioned to me was that if my bike was 2014 up, it'd only be about $350. But the service chick I spoke to couldn't tell me why. Isn't 2014 when they introduced ABS? Wouldn't having no ABS be cheaper?

I'm half way between having a whinge and seeking advice. I've never felt the need to call around before today, but if I was to try elsewhere who in WA would you recommend? I've heard some bad shit about SuperCycles so I'm not even going to try them. Perth HD? American Motorcycles? Can I even expect to save a bit of cash calling around or is ~1k what I can expect for the 40,000K service?

Also try Bullet Racing and Engineering...he did my 40k a while back including the filter etc. From memory it was half that... Located in Anketell.

Thanks a lot guys I appreciate the response.

I am aware of Ando and his services, but forgot all about him! Will also give Bullet a buzz and see what they say, though hoping to avoid going as far as Anketell as I'm fair north.

Out of curiosity I did get in touch with SuperCycles, they quoted me $360! $600 less than Frasers... Waiting to see what Perth HD have to say.

Anyone have any idea why Frasers said the 2007-2013 models are around $960 for the 40K but the 2014 and up models are around the expected $350? Makes no sense to me and I can't figure out why this is the case

EDIT: Just heard from Perth-HD - $385 is what they quoted. I asked them about Fraser's quote and comments about it being in the 2007-2013 range and they were blown away and had no explanation.

Not sure whether this will help you, but for the Softails (2005 Model) @ 40000km's the Service Manual says to replace Fuel Pump along with oils, filters, plugs etc...... Done this on the Fatty just recently & set me back $140 just for the pump. I done the service myself.

I would hate to think how much a dealer charges @ say $100/hour with everything & taking tank apart & putting back together.

But yes try Ando. Knows his stuff

    Thanks again guys.

2005 FLSTFI - Thanks for the info. When I spoke to Perth-HD they said the 40,000KM for Softails is generally charged at around $450, so even that is WAY cheaper than the $960 Frasers quoted me for my Sportster. Insane.

Have booked it in with SuperCycles as they had time when I needed to book it in and quoted me $360.

Probably would have preferred Thundertech or Perth-HD but they are booked out beyond when it's convenient for me & my work and Dave at SuperCycles was good to deal with. Didn't touch base with Ando cos I need it done while I'm at work while I get a lift to and from - and even though he offers mobile servicing there's just no where to do it at my work

Seeing you posted this up, regarding prices that seem over the top by a particular dealer, and a lot lower from another dealer, ( for a routine 40,000 service) ,, could you contact both dealers and ask what parts they a are both going to change /replace , and what components they are going to service etc.. If they both quoted a price , they must know what the fuck they are going to do !!!!! Then you/we, can compare apples to apples !!!!! Not that I want to sound sexist ,, or have a go at the fairer sex ,,, but when you mentioned ,, "the service chick told you" ,, that for one makes red lights start to flash,, and does'nt give me a lot of confidence !!!! Then again ,, the person you spoke to with the much lower price, may have missed some components that require replacement /service, and fucked up their quote..

looking at the service manual for the dyna 2010 there not a lot required at 40,000km service

i would ask for the old fuel filter when you pick up bike, there is easy an hour or so in changing out the filter and new seals and fasteners if they doing it by the book

Update: Bike was serviced by SuperCycles, here in WA. Ended up being $350.

Looking at the invoice it seems they've done things mostly to the book - however I cannot see anything on the list referencing the fuel filter so I'm a bit concerned about that... Have hit them up & waiting for them to get back to me.

Looking at 2007 Dyna Models Manual it clearly states "Fuel tank filter" replace 25,000ml 40,000km
