Oil leak

    Hi All,

Need a little bit of expert advice here. Just got the 08 Heritage out for a run with the young blokes. Met at their place some 10k's from mine. When I left here all fine but when leaving his place noticed oil dripping quite quickly from what appears to be from the front belt sprocket. Well got under the bike a had a look & although there were slight indications that oil was coming from the sprocket, I cant be sure.

Put the bike on a stand (which levelled the bike), & the leak stopped. Ran the engine for a few minutes all seemed ok. Took the bike off the stand on let it rest on its side stand & the leak returned.......wtf ????

Well, just to be sure bought the bike home & missed out on the ride. Checked it out when I got home & guess what, no leaking.

Need to take the bike to the shop but would like to have some idea myself what the problem might be. My thoughts are that it is the seal behind the front sprokett is gone ( bike has 37k's) & that the oil that is leaking is the primary oil.

Any thoughts or ideas you may have would be most welcome.

    Many thanks, Mick

Could be ,jackshaft seal, inner primary seal , gearbox mainshaft seal , main shaft o ring , shift leaver seal all In the same area Which can end up on belt you need to try a figure which one

as above I would be pulling the Primary, Clutch, Compensator and inner Primary off to have a better look but could be a number of things as PH said

if ya sure its pri oil & it only leaks when da bike is on da side stand it must be da derby cover ? , or clean & dry & puff baby powder around where ya think its leaking & look for da wet spot

Clean everything, if you can't tell where it's coming from switch to ATF in the primary so you can see if it's Red in colour at least you know it's your primary leaking not engine or gearbox

Thanks you guys for your suggestions & advice. It gives me a bit to work on. But sooo frustrating that it is not leaking now.

    However, thats very much again.

    Ride safe

Thats why I run Redline in the tranny.... If a leak is clear then its the Primary and if its red its the tranny.
