Running in Engine

    When running engine in:

I recommend changing the filter x2: once at 150KMs to get rid of any excess metal floating around your engine and once more at 750KMs (top up lost engine oil or change completely).  I would recommend mineral to run in the engine as it will bed down faster.  Synthetic oil used to run in engine takes alot longer.

I recommend following Harley-Davidson break in procedure for new engines as if the engine stressed too early they normally will have to be re-built earlier.

I recommend after the engine is run in according to Harley-Davidson set procedure you take the bike out on a long straight road and push the engine as fast as it can go as quickly as possible x20 times.  I've done this on my Twin Cam and it runs like a clock with no problems.

Change oil and filter again at 1500Kms and follow standard servicing routine.  Penrite do a Running In Oil (20w50) which is ideal for running in Harleys & most other engines.

If stop start riding in the city and doing short rides under 90Kms more water is present  in the engine as it's not getting burned off. (Frequency is the destructor or saviour).  This leads to sulphuric acid build up.  Change oil more regular and take longer rides over 90Kms every now and then.

Hope this helps all you mongrels!
