Servo protocol

Although I'm a newcomer to HDs, I've been a motorcyclist for a very long time. ( over a dozen Jap and Euro bikes )

Today I called into my local servo and was left holding the pump nozzle in the tank, 'for an eternity' waiting for the pump to reset.

Was almost startled by an anouncement over the fore-court  P.A. instructing me to dismount !

ONLY other time this has happened was at same servo a few years back.

I can understand taking the helmet off before entering the shop, but .... the requirement to dismount ??

( I find it easier to refuel whist straddling the bike )

Bloody shame it's my nearest servo ....

    Is this 'rule' widespread ?

Its supposed to be a WHS issue, like the other bullshit one of not using your mobile in the servo. The reason behind it are that if your on the bike and the tank overflows over the hot motor you will go up with the bike, along with your petrol soaked balls1

    Yeah ...

    Same ole' Same ole'.
Rules and F**ckin regulations to cater for the lowest common denominator.

I 'had a word' to the bloke who called me on it and he banged on with the predictable 'not worth my job' / heavy fines etc but also curiously mentioned, that our good friends in QLD don't suffer with the same bullshit ...

Nutsacks less valuable up north ?

Whenever I get told off for something I do as I'm told, then after I've paid go sit on my bike and pretend to talk on my mobile. 9 out of 10 times they start ranting about the mobile, either over the PA or by coming out the doors to yell. I plug one ear with my finger and carry on talking till I've had enough fun.

I've noticed it takes the operators on average more time to reset the bouser to start filling up when riding the Harley compared to the Jap bikes and cars.

Ya gotta get of ya ride to pay so why not get off to fill up in the first place. Seems a non issue to me. Perhaps you are the lowest common denominator??

I go to the same petrol station 99% of the time as its on the way to work. The staff are fast, friendly and do not mind if I wear my open face helmet inside.

They get paid sweet FA and take chit from everyone so I say hi to them and wish them a good day.

It never hurts to say hi and be friendly.

I normally find myself talking in their accent, just not their language.  Apu from the simpsons is my guide when it comes to service stations.

Packi's in the mix also in my local servo's,'red dot on the forehead' for better service,I'm thinking national standards for all refueling ? Can't miss these posted on all pumps here in WA.

If you sit on your bike while filling and there's a spark between the nozzle and the tank, there will be fire. If there is fire, you won't be bothering to calmly replace the nozzle, close the filler cap and put your bike on the sidestand. You will leap off the bike, letting it fall on it's side and disgorging a large pool of burning petrol all over the forecourt. This is not good.

You can't just click on those links. You have to cut and past the link into the browser address window. FYI When posting links, use the icon on the toolbar that looks like a chain link. That will attach anything as a Hyperlink so all you have to do is click on it.

BTW shocking footage and terrible the fellow died

makes perfect sense to me to get off the bike to fuel up anyway. My luck, if I tried to fuel up while sitting on the bike some fucktard in a car would drive up me clacka and spear me into next week. Atleast this way I got a running chance to get away.
