Aerosol electrical contact cleaner is good for that kind of job

I had a similar problem on my softail. I couldn't for the life of me figure it out. Finally I discovered the culprit. A loose battery connection. It was only about a 1/4 turn loose but it would give me the same cutting out symptoms as you described. Hope that helps.
