Just looking for feedback on Jims Cooling Fans, The forums seem to make this product about a 4.5 star rating and the Luv Jugs Cooling Fans a 5 star rating. I've seen the vid of the Jugs running under water,[ nothing wrong with looking at jugs is there?] and just wondering how Jims stack up to running in the rain.

Have you also considered http://www.wardspartswerks.com/cooling-fans.html ?

Mine has been brilliant over summer riding in Brisbane rush-hour traffic.

I find them more discrete than Love Jugs and extremely effective.

    Cheers

Thanks for that. I thought i'd try Jims cooling fans. They seem pretty tidy on the photo's and Rollie's have them in stock. Do appreciate the feedback.

I think it was around $580. I pick them up on Wednesday. There a pretty expensive item however i think it's the way to go with these 103 engines or i guess any air cooled engine. Just before christmas i did the advanced rider coarse at Lakeside raceway and gave the bike a right royal flogging until i was drifting sideways coming into a corner. Blew the oil seal around the oilfilter. To much heat and presure builtup in engine.Fucking every drop of oil over me and the bike. No damage done, just pride. i think the cooling fans will help keep things cooler and a K&N hi flow oil filter instead of standed to keep the oil flowing around the bike instead of on me. I'm having another crack at the coarse in March and feel the cooling will be just what the doctor ordered.Stay Upright advance rider coarse where kind enough to give me the  advance braking and corner coarse again free of charge. Just one more mod then, change front sprocket from 32 tooth to 30 tooth. 96 rear wheel h/p, 108rear wheel torque, Stage 2 kit is pretty good.

I'm thinking of some fans for the 120, even though it runs reasonably cool.
I would probably go for the Wards units, but I do like the look of Jims.
The advanced riding course sounds like a great idea, and good fun. Shame about the oil leak though !!
Temperature shouldn't cause the filter to leak, as the thinner hot oil should have a lower pressure.
Maybe the filter O ring was damaged or not properly tightened ??

i went for the ward fans for my 120r because they are mounted and aimed at the heat source and push the air through and around the top of each cylinder head. I thought the Jims fan looked a bit small and not really mounted in the best position to get the best chance of cooling a hot engine.

My oil doesn't break down as fast and the no2 cylinder doesn't shut down and become an air pump at traffic lights anymore.

I'll let you know how the jims cooling system goes. Next coarse is in March for the Stay upright advance braking and cornering at Lakeside raceway. Well worth going to.

You were running a HD air cooled twin around Lakeside Racetrack in summer?? Hell yeah, fans are nessacary! Must have been bloody hot.

Fun track that, even if it's old. Last time I was on it years back they had 'the bus stop' operating. 1/2 the people were petrified of it but those that got it loved her and treated it with no respect ??

Stay Upright courses are the ducks nuts, even on a cruiser though I'd rather do it in winter...

The bus stop was in business. I was starting to get the feel for it and yes I should a been a little more gentle on the Fatbob. A few lessons learnt. I did enjoy passing a few bike on the cruiser.

Got the Jims fan fitted. First impression was looks good but at the lights a bit noisy. I got to really test it out on Fridays through traffic and up in the hills. Brisbane was around 35 degrees with very high humidity. I can say I think they're great. The air blows through the middle of the two heads, kicks in at 120 degrees with a censor on the top of the tappet case. Seems to blow air through to the air filter as well. All in all a great investment for my Fatbob. $590 I picked it up for, not cheap, but your bike will love you for it.

Hi guys ... just a question on the difference in noise between Jims and Wards fans ... I have the Jims and am happy that there is some air blowing through the Heads area that's for sure , especially living in Sth East Qld ... bloody hot and muggy up this way this time of year .

Was just wondering if anyone has done or seen a comparison when it comes to noise levels between the 2 as the Jims is quite loud ... stop anywhere after a half decent ride like a fuel station or mates place or where ever and on start up the Fan kicks in ... which is good to know it`s doing it`s job but always get the ... What the hell is that noise from people not in the know ... and I`m talking you can hear the fan over the noise of the motor and I have pretty loud pipes on as well .

Like I say I think the Jims is doing it`s job but is it better to have the air blowing between the Heads or like the Wards or even the Jugs having the air blow directly onto the side of the heads and then of course it raises the question that only the Left hand side of the Head is getting some Air while the right hand side still heats up the same as usual and is that a good or bad thing ... would be nice to hear back from the Technical minded people out there .

I do like the looks of the Jims which is one of the reasons I went for it but the Wards seem to be a good idea and nice and compact as opposed to the Jugs .

Just checked out that link you gave me Speedzter ... certainly sounds like Luv Jugs are the most quite ... the Wards seem to be as loud as my Jims Fan ... the only interesting thing now is to see if there is any research regarding the positioning of the fans ... if`s there no major benefit to going with the duel Fans then I might stick with the Jims Fan that I have ... at least I know it is working when it kicks in .
