Maintaining Warranty ...

Recently bought a new HD and paid to extend warranty to 5 years.

The sales bloke said that stage 1 work, HAS to be done at a HD dealer to maintain warranty.

I suppose all other service type work will be similarly  'constrained' ?

All service and mechanical work needs to be maintained by a HD dealer otherwise warranty is void.

    Thx Pauly ...

I guess 'warranty entitlements' for the consumer, covers EVERYTHING ... including Harley Davidsons. Lol

( The sales fella was very bullish )

Pauly, you say "this has been done a thousand times before".

But, as you can see ...

Some things need to be GENTLY reaffirmed. ( insert smiley face )

The only way they can reject your warranty is if they can prove that a mod/non genuine part whatever caused the failure you are claiming warranty for.

Whilst it's true that statuatory warranty work and standard warranty work can be done at any qualified repairer extended warranties are a somewhat different matter and sellers of extended warranties can impose conditions upon them which they could not legally impose upon standard warranties because extended 'warranties' are basically insurance policies and not warranties.

Having said that many extended warranties aren't worth the paper they're written on.

I'm reasonably sure ( November was such a long time ago and too hard to look for relevant documents; I should be in bed ) that the extra warranty I paid for is HD warranty - not supplied by a third party.

    O.K ...

The above sounded a bit weird, so I checked the documents.

My extra warranty is called 'HARLEY Extended Warranty', administered by Swann Insurance.

Sorry for the non-excitement folks ....

I have extended warranty on my bike and there is a clause in that warranty that says. " Harley Davidson have allowed you to have your bike serviced by a non HD dealer" or something along those lines, i'll dig it out and check the exact wording.

Yeah, i had a laugh when i read it. My bike has never seen a HD dealer for anything other than warranty or recall and i've never been questioned in regard to who, where, how, or when i've had it serviced. They just do whatever was needed, no questions asked, even though i didn't buy the bike from them.
