I find drag bars comfortable. My son has apes on his Night Train and I find them too wide and a bit too high.
Mine have 8" pull back risers but are slightly narrower than the genuine HD drag bars, so it is a natural arms out at chest height position.
I don't get shoulder aches even on long rides.
My previous bars were still drag bars but wider with a 7" riser that didn't quite come back as far and I used to get shoulder aches with them on longer rides.
It is amazing how a small change can make a huge difference.
You can get an idea of the width and pull back in this shot -
It is each to their own with bars though, what is comfortable for one person is not necessarily comfortable for somebody else. No matter which way you go it'll be better than standard. Good luck.
I've had both and like both for different reasons, but would like to go back to fat mini-apes I think from memory these are 8" risers and 4" pullback
Uncle Ho - nice looking ride. Out of interest, what brand is that solo seat? Would you recommend it? I'm looking about for the right one for my Fat Bob. Cheers.
I have a 2015 Street Bob Special and it come with forward controls and fat drag bars. I'm about 5' 10" and found it uncomfortable on long distances. Around town, fine. Long distances, you get there and step off like a half opened pocket knife. I went to the mini apes which come standard with a 3 1/2" riser. They were comfortable but I have since lowered the riser to 1 1/2" riser. Now feels perfect. As mentioned in an earlier post, each to their own. You have to experiment to find what suits you best.
If you are interested in purchasing a set of fat drag bars and risers, yell out !! Almost brand new.
Good Luck !!
I have 14 inch apes on my bike and find them very comfy to ride long trips with and after a few rides, I was more confident going into corners ect. Each to their own..
sorry to drag u an old thead and post, just wondering what bedroll/bag that is strapped to your bars?
cheers, Matt
