Yep, up there with Mark, replace the fob battery first up, the little bastards are hungry, active 24/7, recommended to replace them every 12 months.

Not meaning to hijack the post, but another question about alarms please.

When I dissconnected my battery recently, the alarm went off..

Is there a "thing" you can do that lets you disconnect the battery without setting this off?

    Cheers..

On a 2001 , the fob may have a push button centre

2007 and on there was no push button , just an " instant on" feature as you walk away from the bike carrying the fob.

Chances are a 2001 DOES not have the 2007 and up proximity type alarm ?

Phil, switch your ignition on like normal, then switch it off and quickly pull the main fuse before the alarm arms itself.
Now you can pull the battery.

Your edit doesn't sound right to me. My fuel pump primes when I switch my ignition to on. Not when I hit start.

hitting start starts the bike, the fuel pump has to be primed before that doesn't it?

Anyway I think he will figure it out without complicating it !!

You guys are right !!! My bad .... Where I confused things was, mentioning the "Start Switch", (which starts bike), instead of the, "OFF /RUN switch", (which when you push in the "RUN" position, you can hear the fuel pump priming) ....

Should have said,,, Make sure "Run / Off switch" is in the OFF position ,,,, Turn ignition switch ON , (wait for bike to disarm security system),, Now turn OFF ignition switch ,,, Now pull Maxi fuse, (you have approx 4 -5 seconds before security system will arm) ,,

I know some have their OFF/RUN switch (commonly called "kill switch"), in the "RUN" position all the time, and use the ignition switch to turn system on ,, then hit the start Button.. If this is the case , the fuel pump will prime when the ignition switch is turned ON ... Shit , this is turning into an epic !!!!!

Yep I (and I think most people) don't even touch the kill switch, just the ignition switch on the tank console.
The most common exception is probably the Street Bob which the early years models didn't have a tank switch.
Mine is one of those but I did a mod to fit one very early on and haven't touched the kill switch since

I have told you YOU HAVE AN EARLY PUSH BUTTON ALARM 99-06, the type you refer to is a perimeter alarm that works on distance from the 07-current bike and a 01 bike does not have it.
Your alarm sets itself 30 seconds from turning bike of because it was set that way most have it set so sets when you push the button

Your right Mutley for the OP.

However my response was to Phil's question, although don't know what year bike he has either :)
