Has anyone come across a rear rack for a 2014/15/16 Fat Bob? Ideally it would suit a solo seat set-up and be rigid mount. I want to do something different to having a sissy bar set up.
Seems that HD only made them up to the 2013 year model and stopped, though they have offerings for the rest of the Dyna range. Why they don't make it for a current model I don't know. The Street Bob rigid mount one would be great but it definitely wouldn't fit.
Ultimately I'd like to to turn my 2015 FXDF into a solo seat set up with a black rear rack but this is proving to be a bit more difficult idea then it originally seemed.
Thanks.
Saddlebags ?
Edit:
For practicality / plain damn usefulness etc, I've been toying with the idea of saddlebags for my Fxdf.
But am more than a little reticent in 'mucking with the beautiful lines' / curves of my 'boy' ( lol )
( Have bought a leather bag that is slung over battery cover, for the interim. )
P.S. A work mate rides a black Triumph Thunderbird Storm and his Triumph branded saddle bags look great !
( I consider the Triumph to have similar lines to my bike )
howdy JFE, mate check out motherwell solo racks, or bikers choice solo luggage rack, (google both) bolt to fender nut at the rear of the solo seat and to the fender nut at the rear where the two-up seat would fastened, curved to follow the form of the fender cruiser customizing (USA) have them id be pretty certain, that's where I got mine for my softail but wait till they have 50% off AUS shipping which regularly comes up- got mine delivered for $56 I'm pretty sure there is also an Ausie phone number on their website (top r/h corner) says G'day mate, talk to the dude at their Australian warehouse and he will no doubt steer you or may even have stock hope this helps cheers mate
mate what is the measurement from hole centre to hole centre on your fender? if its the same as mine- 195mm I could give you a part number, mine is to suit 200mm rear tyre/guard
Thanks for answering this blokes.
Flipdog -- I think you are onto something there. I will give them a call tomorrow to talk it over. They seem well priced, particularly if it fits. I'm cautious about getting a rack that mounts to the rego plate area as currently I have an issue where the FB is putting out too many vibes there, costing me in lost plates! Another option is the HD accessory guy here reckons that the Street Bob rigid solo rack (HD equipment) can be 'made' to fit by stretching it a bit. Noting the SB is a 160 rear compared to a FB's 180, that's a bit of stretching. He offered the deal that if it doesn't fit, I don't have to purchase it. The main reason why I like this set up is that the rigid gear mounts to the rear fender covers which increases its load carrying capacity a lot. Saying that, it also triples the price circa $220 plus fitting, compared to what you pointed out circa $70. All I want to carry is a normal bag so $$ is a factor. I will measure the hole differences tomorrow when I'm home - thanks for offering that info.
Speedy -- I want the rack for aesthetic and practical reasons. Saddlebags are an option for longer trips otherwise I'm hoping for the rack to carry the basics. Like you, I'm not convinced on most of what's on offer for saddlebags for the FXDF. Too big looking and looks ok is $1000 plus. I found an Italian mob on EBay that have a set delivered to Oz for circa $600-700 which I liked but man, I wouldn't be carry much ... but they look cool. I've been thinking about them with a rack is doable though, especially as I'm only packing for myself. I also like that they attach to the existing FB rear fender plates. Again, wouldn't want to overload it but it's a live option atm.
Hey Flipdog,
The measurement is around 42 cm's between the two holes. Having researched the issue more, Motherwell make a solo rear rack to suit (MWL-530B). It looks good and at least one punter on Amazon reckons it fits his 2014 FXDF perfectly. Bikers Choice may have something similar but they aren't as user friendly to get info out of.
What brand do you have?
FARK. That's embarrassing. Evidently if I was a carpenter, I'd be a garbage one -- 42 cm is too long (shake the head). I thought something was strange about that measurement when I was about to pass out last night. I will blame the foreign beer that I enjoyed at lunch.
Yep, the BC code you sent seems spot on. I will have a chat with them. Interesting that the Bikers Choice model looks exactly the same as the Motherwell but is less than 1/2 the price. Even with my dodgy numerical skills I know BC looks good!
PM sent Flipdog. Thanks for your help with this.
