S&S SPO mufflers and end caps

I bought myself a pair of S&S SPO mufflers in chrome - now attached to V&H Power Dual headers (with thanks to Tim S.G for helping me get the headers to Canberra!).

To dress the mufflers up a bit I bought a pair of the S&S SPO end caps in black which came from the UK of all places at a cost of $260 AUD (!!).  They arrived today and look pretty good but I'm buggered if I know how to fit them on my mufflers.  The new end caps don't fit inside or outside my muffler ends.  The bolt holes on the end caps have one hole on each side in the middle, whilst the muffler ends have small smaller bolts at each corner.  Pictures below show this best.  When you look at images of SPO mufflers on the web, you see some like mine with the four bolt arrangement, and others with the two bolt arrangement.  The end caps didn't come with instructions and it's not easy pulling out the insides of the muffler ends where the four bolts sit (I only had five minutes to try this morning).  But pulling these bits out is unlikely to help anyway as the end caps cannot fit inside my muffler ends, and there is no other external part of my muffler ends that detach (single piece chrome outer layer).

Is there something obvious I have missed here or are there two different versions/series of the SPO muffler?  Cannot find this info on the web.

Have sent emails to the retailer and to S&S to see what they have to say but don't expect anything back quickly at this time of the year.  Thought some of handy blokes on here might know.

Got a reply from s&s simply saying mine are the wrong.version of spo mufflers to suit the end caps. Nothing mentioned about their lack of describing compatibility in their Web site and that of their retailers who simply.use s&s' website description

I wasn't happy with S&S' tech response so I emailed them back asking them to remedy the problem which was caused by their poor product descriptions and which has caused me to spend $260 AUD and wait a month for an item that doesn't work. The tech then replied indicating he would send it on to another team for their attention. Hoping S&S will sort it out as their service is supposed to be pretty good.

Putting this here in case others here with the SPO mufflers consider dressing up their mufflers with end caps and weren't aware of this.

Unfort it appears to be impossible to make these wrong end caps work, and they don't appear to make end caps for my older version of the SPO muffler.

Wow, big failure on the part of S & S production and product description.

Hope you can sort it out to your favour, recouping your money.

I'd be pissed that after waiting a month, you get the wrong stuff. When I buy stuff, I want it yesterday and can't wait for it to arrive. Totally fucks your day to open the box and find the wrong parts.
