L A Cycles at hoxton park ( do a google for phone number ) they have a Dyno with load control & afr, & know how to tune Harleys!!!

Forget about anything to do with car's.

When you change the pipe, you should also put a less restrictive air filter, then custom map fuel & ignition, if done right will make your bike feel a lot better, sound better & probably last longer.

But you need to remember, to custom MAP ,EFI. it is a full day's labour. also most shops close for a few weeks this time of year.

    good luck.

I agree L A Cycles at Hoxton Park.  I had my 1200custom sporty to the dealers 3 times to work out a tune and to eliminate a surge,,,,,dealers could not solve the problem let alone tune the bike.

I was recomended to go to L A Cycles at hoxton Park, they had the bike for a day and a half, not only did  they remap and tune the bike (goes like a dream,  Torque went from 66 to 72.74 and max power from54 to 64.27 ;) they also found that the swing arm bolt was nearly unthreaded all the way, this could have been a major problem not to far down the line..

I have never been happier with my bike and highly recommend L A Cycles.

Custom dyno tune is usually anywhere between $600-800

    Another vote for LA Cycles.

There is also the option of a Powervision, for the same price (or a bit less) than a Dyno Tune you can do your own basic tuning and get a result 90% as a very good dyno tune. Plus the fact you have a diagnostics, gauges and the ability to incremently tune your bike for any other changes of pipe, cam or god forbid get EPA'd and have to return everything to stock, and with Short shots it's a matter of time till the cops get ya. Not to mention they are not the best performing pipes by a long shot.

For a stage 1 it's probably the best bet, dyno comes into it's own with cam swaps and cube increases. That been said, LA cycles are brilliant and would highly recommend them.

For a Stock & new 48, i would just ride it for say 1,000k stock pipe stock AC, then service . then fit pipe & AC after booking a custom tune at dyno. L A Cycles have been building tuniong, riding & racing HARLEYS & nothing but HARLEYS over thirty years & they know how to Tune!!! anthing from a stock street bike to a Nitro burning Top Bike. so very hard to find a more experienced tuner. also the owner does the work. The difference between as is & after you will feel when you start riding the bike. if your not too heavy & your capable after the tune pipe change air cleaner change & custom tune low 12's quarter mile would be possible.

If you're only planning on stage 1 then a fuel pak fuel controller will be fine. But a lot of us say that only to keep moving which is when youll want a full tuner.

Read up on thundermax experiences here and you'll stay away.

Bloke selling a cheap hacked powervision here which would do the job and more. And probably similar price if not cheaper than
    Fuel pak.

TTS maps are probably better than most other manufacturers too if you were to consider TTS for either loading a canned map, vtuning or having dyno tuned.

A custom dyno tune includes wide open throttle runs to redline which some people don't like, particularly during engine run in. Engine run in opinions is another discussion/debate altogether.

If I was you I'd check out that power vision for sale on here along with the screamin eagle tuners he's selling. It's in the efi/tuning section. Canned map might make you happy, has some auto tuning capability and is a full tuner if you need it later. Can also be used by a dyno tuner too.

if you are after a powervision i have one unused sitting right next to me I'll let you have for a good price. Never married to a bike.

I'll gladly tune it too, bit of a side hobby I have.

Just re-consider the short shots, about all they are good for is making a shitload of noise.

Stock head pipes & slip on's always work the best.

    Why not leave it stock?

the stock header pipes/crossover is fine, will flow 80+hp, it's the mufflers that restrict the power, Some Cycleshack slip ons will sound the goods and let it flow.

Exhaust design is a complicated thing, there is the requirement for back pressure, equal length runners and a whole bunch of physics that only a NASA scientist understand.

You won't be worse off with short shots anywhere in the powerband compared to a stock system, but you could do better that's for sure.

    This is a good read.

Lean the other way and leith another pipe! Every man and his dog has those pipes on,and it's not like they actually look good either.

Brash was on the money with stock head er & Cycle Shack slip on giving best results, they also sound like a Harley. But if you have your heart set on just pose & show & really want these V&H pipes then before you buy at least go to a good Harley Tunner talk to them first they might be able to tune to get the V&H to perform with the right tune But HD motors are not like a car motor or A Suzuki or Jap multi Factory racer , so any tuning idea's Learnt tuning Jap racers can not work for a Harley so go to an experienced HD tunner I'm sure they could tell you what you could expect but a word of advice. Cop's are not brain dead, and no matter what if you run V&H short shots you could b hit with a defect so better to keep pipe looking close to stock, if you op for the Cycle Shack slip on they will sound better than stock & better than V&H but look stock like so less chance of attracting unwanted attention.

I have a 2014 XL1200CA, it came with V&H Short Shots but with standard air filter and no tuner. Put the standard pipes on for a roady and noticed a drop in power. Put the short shots back on with a SE Stage 1 filter and V&H FP3 and used there standard map (was quoted $1100+ to do same from dealer, cost me $650 all up), noticeable improvement in power, just pulls of the line heaps better. Then changed to a heavy breather but not much different.  To those who say stock bikes will beat it of the line, I call bullshit (unless your taking jappa's). Have a mate with a 120R and I beat him of the line and he doesn’t pass me till around 80-100.

I haven’t used other tuners so I can only speak for the FP3, simple to use, and loaded with heaps of maps which you can then autotune.  Had the bike running sweet with more power after Auto tunning and using less fuel (about 20-30k's more per tank) until the TPS shit itself (truth is I used a wrong bolt on the heavy breather and fucked it).

Haven’t had an issue with the Law and seen them plenty of times but then I live in Vic and have been told unless you're being a dick they will mostly leave you alone.

I am sure the short shots would work better than stock headers that still have the stock muffler fitted, what I ment was stock header with cycle shack slip on tapered end low restriction baffle & say low restriction air cleaner ( take your pick ) Mr D you will need to have it tuned to match as it will be runing too lean with the increased air flow. Will need more fuel but more than that as a good tunned will also custom advance curve & so on, you can feel the difference & would be nicer than stock to ride.
