Fat, wide or street..

so I've decided yes I'm buying a dyna, rode a street and a low rider, lovely motor in them.

But.. I've been offered up a 2015 fat, 2016 street or an ex demo wide glide. All roughly the same price.

I need mids put on either the wide or fat (I don't do forwards), but that's sort of easily sorted. But I'm pretty torn.. I do love the brutal 70s muscle car styling of the fat bob, I also love the raked chopper look of the wide glide but the street is a good basic bike.

I'm open to any advice.. I actually went in to the dealers money in hand to buy one today but I'm just a little torn. I probably 60% commute rain or shine, the rest is 200-300km freeway runs..

I bought a Dyna Fat a couple of months back, just / mainly on the look.

Now .... am so very happy with my decision.

Best of luck with it all, Mr.Mow

I love my Fat Bob and can't sing its praises enough. But I could not imagine riding one with mid's. I believe they were offered years back with mid's standard however I dig the forwards 'style', and just could not picture using mid's with the FB's seating position which you 'sit in' rather than 'on'.

Saying all that, I rated the FB for being the only one that had twin discs upfront. I assume your not interested in the Low Rider, another Dyna with mid's (and twin discs)? Plenty of folks dig those.

Did you ride the standard Street Bob or the special? I assume the standard that has mid's. The style of that bike with the mini-apes is different to the others; if you liked that that would be the winner to me. They do look cool with their own unique attitude if you like that sort of thing. I like Dyna's as a range of bikes ... all similar but very different in attitude.

    My 2c here ends...

I put mids on my FatBob as my stumpy little legs weren't comfortable with the forwards.

I did the conversion myself using StreetBob components.

She looks sweet. I'm suprised ... but probably shouldn't be. How does it go with mid's? Would you say clearance is better? I'm guessing the extra foot leverage compared to forwards would be helpful.

Thanks guys, some real good feedback there.
Off to the dealership this morning.. I think I could be happy with any of them really, I'm swayed towards the FB and the WG, but seeing you have to replace the primary cases on forward mount bikes => to mids.. We'll have to see what they say!

FatRob -- leverage is an issue I'm coming to terms with using the forwards. I have 'evolved' my riding style slightly as just can't put as much pressure on the pegs as I used to on my Jap bike. Not a complaint at all, just a requisite change which also includes knowing when to lift the heel. I rate forwards, so I'm making it work with good results.

MrMow -- I've washed my mouth out, and apologised to the Road God's for suggesting anything bar a FXDF. Get a FatBob and shove some mid's on her. Squeeze the dealership that wants to move the 2015 model! As I've said previously and LLeroy alluded too, the FB is an great handling Harley and the twin discs help the show ...

Was lucky enough to test ride both today.. Heart said wide glide, mind said fat bob.

Went wide glide, they'll fit mids for me :) I tried the forwards, but my feet would slip off, didn't feel at all comfortable.

Now.. Bars, pipes, aircleaner.. Maybe seat!

Try it with the reduce reach forwards the dyna's are about an inch more forward than he softails , I had the same problem with feet slipping off change them now not a problem

The dealer had these clip on reduced reach foot peg things, only bring them back an inch.. It's not I can't reach at 5 10", I think it's more a matter of coming from a naked bike background, I don't feel like I have any control with my feet out there, looks like a good compromise will be the low rider 'mids', 2" forward of normal mids but 8" back from forwards.

I sort of prefer the crouched up, knees up stance on a bike!

I switched to mids on both my sporty 72 and 48, never regretted that! I just cannot comprehend why Harley designed 2 different primary cases.. It's insane for a mass production manufacturer.

My mate was gonna bring his forwards back a touch on his dyna but put pull back risors on the bars and said it changed his whole position so much that never need to worry bout the pegs.

I'm planning on dumping the risers, putting 8" mini apes and angling them forward :)

Well.. Mids are off the table.. Seems certain years require changing the inner primary as well as the outer primary. A very expensive, pain in the bung hole proposition.

Try second handers or swapping the parts on a forum. Many people who buy harley models with mid controls want to go to forward controls. Since you're doing the reverse of this, it shouldn't be too hard to get the parts cheap (or swapped). That would leave you with the work (or labour cost) to change things over.

MrMow -- have you tried some thick soled HD riding boots? This may sound silly but  coming from a Jap sports bike I found the Fat Bob's forwards just too short by a bee's proverbial. After trading up from the Ol Sidi race boots for a set of FXRG boots and some other US boots ... I remedied the situation nicely. Plus I can now walk further than the bar/servo in the boots.

    Love the fwd's...
